I had a chance to critically check two of these against a Nikon ED 50mm and Celestron M2 80mm. Optics of 65mm are nearly equal to Nikon and better than M2 80mm. Focus is precise, snaps into focus and mount is solid enough to resists shake on good tripod.
I have only been able to use this scope once but took it out birdwatching to a local wildlife preserve. We were able to spot Bald Eagles that were across a pond and once we got the scope trained on them, the viewing was spectacular.
GOOD Quality, clear glass. setup is fast. I shoot mid range and long range competition. Compact and light weight. I do wish the zippered cover was 1/2 longer, it would take the stress off the zippers.
I use this scope to view the sky, along with birds and other wildlife. 'm hoping to attach my DSLR to it to shoot some closeups of birds and other animals. The magnification is better than I expected, and the tripod that came with it works well.
Excelent spotting scope. Little more clear than the Regal 65 ED
I bought this scope for NRA/CMP Highpower. I wanted an upgrade to replace my entry level Konuspot 80. I was looking for better glass in a smaller, lighter package. On the positive side. The optical clarity of this scope is excellent, it's everything I expected. On the negative.
This is a heavy spotting scope which definitely requires a sturdy tripod. The images are crisp and clear at lower magnification. It would be great if Celestron included a wide-angle lens in the deal. One is available but must be purchased separately.
I am very happy with this Celestron scope for birding. I researched for weeks and found that it was considered one of the best in its price range, and so far that's proven to be true. It has really enhanced my enjoyment, and I'm pleased for the money I spent.
I have had many spotting scopes in the last 45 years. I am a bit of an optics snob, so the vast majority have been European or Japanese. However, now days many of the toprated $ and under optics are made in China so after a lot of reasearch I decided to give this model a try.
This is a fine scope in many respects with a lot of great features. Having said that, I just returned the one I'd just purchased and tested in the field. As some others have said, this model is back end heavy.
