There are rough edges, from the keyboard's zone backlight to loud fans to its enormous size, but the Alienware 17 R4 is still one of the few machines...

Worthy of the "desktop replacement" moniker, Excellent performance even under full load, Display comes in 1440p/120Hz and 4K variants

Tons of fan noise despite larger size, Extra-large hinge/vent area makes an enormous laptop even more so, Some of the lower-tier models make baffling...
It's not often that a notebook gains weight and girth in successive generations. In this case, the new Alienware 17 R4 utilizes the extra space wisely for an overall stronger experience that more than makes up for the added mass.

Wide display options (FHD, QHD, UHD, 120 Hz, G-Sync, IPS, TN), 2x USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 3, Graphics Amplifier support, no CPU or GPU throttling; extreme performance, very high quality chassis; strong base and lid, very fast display response times, intuitive AlienFX software, bright display...

very warm CPU and GPU temperatures when gaming, fans are always active and very loud when gaming, slight creaking when opening and closing the lid, fewer internal storage bays compared to 17 R3, fingerprints and grease accumulate quickly, no individually-lit keys; only 20 color keys, few USB Type-A...
The Alienware 17 R4 offers a great combination of strong performance, comfortable typing, innovative eye tracking and an attractive design. With its lower-end components, you may also get all-day battery life and, with the optional graphics amp, you can get even stronger performance.

Outstanding performance, Subtle and stylish design, Upgrade-ability, Plenty of Rear IO

Can get noisy under full-load, Tobii Eye-Tracking technology needs refinement
Tne one thing that Dell is good at is improving its products. This time, Dell has provided some noteworthy upgrades to the Alienware 17 2017. This year’s Alienware 17 isn’t quite the same. Although thinner, it’s also larger due to the protruding back.

Plenty of features, Excellent cooling efficiency

Surface collects fingerprints
Yet again, I’m still pretty impressed with what Dell has to offer with the Alienware 17. They managed to keep all their strengths from the previous model and even improve in a couple areas. Sure, it’s bigger, but the performance capabilities make up for it in my opinion.
Highly recommended. Top of the line as far as I am concerned. By far the best laptop have ever owned. Been gaming since 2004.

Its super fast, graphics are so smooth. Replaced a GTX970 Alienware laptop with this. The graphics are so clear and fast that when gaming there is absolutely no skip on the graphics at all. Seriously its in a class of its own. Ample cooling when gaming hard and very responsive keyboard.

Its a little heavy, but for the performance well worth it.
The main thing I like about Alienware's new products are the build quality and design. I love the LED lighting trim and the touchpad lighting.

Nicely made gaming laptop with good specs for a reasonable price (relatively!)This is effectively a desktop replacement - it's heavy, you wouldn't want to carry it around on a regular basis!
