Keeps things very cool with little power draw. As others have mentioned, the latches are wimpy but gravity keeps the lid closed for me. (I'm not going "off road"--it's in my truck). It's a bit pricy but the quality and reliability of the unit are worth it.
A bomb proof fridge that does all and more than the ads say. The low power usage is amazing. Of course it replaced our fitted fridge in our 2000 VW camper.
I keep this plugged in to a 12V outlet the back of my car so it is always running while the car is on. I use it to transport frozen and refrigerated items from shopping- no more melted ice cream products in our hot climate. Also to cool drinks on long trips.
Very happy with this purchase. I've tested it for a couple of weeks using 12volt battery only (I'll be using this on my sailboat). It will freeze a coke if I turn it above setting of 1. It is in an room with no air conditioning. Only using 16 to 18 amp hours a day.
We bought this Fridge/Freezer for our motorhome to help with the small freezer as well as keep things frozen when we turn off the refrigerator when on the road (we don't travel with the propane on).
This is not Engel motor, it was invented by Japanese company
The Engel compressor has just one moving part. You really need to enter a search term "Engelcoolers" to fully understand & appreciate the design engineering of the compressor. Scroll to the bottom of the page where you see a description & drawing showing the compressors design & the reason 45 watts...
I've been running my MR040 continuously since March 2015, half the year in my 4x4 and half in the house, and it's been flawless. I rarely want things frozen inside, though it's seemingly effortless for it to do so, and so I run the control between 1 and 2 (out of 5).
Installed in my boat and so far so good. Louder than I thought it would be but it isn't terrible. The thermostat control moves almost too easily but in my application it won't get bumped or incidentally touched so it won't pose a problem for me.
returned, plastic outer molding not fit correctly. That made the top not securely latch
