As most avid photographers I have found myself short of storage space on my internal hard drive and needed the expansion room provided by an external hard drive. In addition because I use a Mac I wanted the set up to be easy and fast. The G-drive met this need and I was up and running in minutes.
I got this for a back up drive hoping it was fast enough to do some editing with.....Plugged in it work to move files on to but is so noisy I can't need to put in another room to use. This a nasty old noise drive from the 90's in a dull gray box not the tan......Will not buy this brand again
I have another G-Drive. I liked it so much, I bought this one and am not disappointed. The drive is quiet and relatively fast for a mechanical drive. I do not turn it off and I like that it goes to sleep when my computer goes to sleep and wakes up quickly when my computer wakes up.
Macbook Pro picked it up immediately. It's quite enough and very fast. I'd recommend this to anyone. I'm a long, long time user of WD, this is the first non WD in many years.
I use the 2TB model for editing in Premiere Pro, Mixing in Adobe Audition, and I've even used it for a few After Effects Compositions. Works pretty great alongside my 27 5k iMac (2015 model max spec) My only complaint is that as I'm editing/mixing and not really navigating through the drive, it...
This device is the most noisy of my "external HD collection", but is fast. the noise isn't so loud, and occurs only when it's acessed.
Great drive! I purchase this drive because I needed something fast and would be able to handle video. I was looking for something that I could edit HD video on because I didnt want to put the video on my computer drive.
Easy set up, working with mac OS Time Machine, quiet. My last one was an older model G-Tech and I hope this one is as dependable as that one was.
I have a stack of these that I use for backing up my photos and videos and I haven't had one fail yet. The 3TB drives that were not Thunderbolt were not nearly as reliable so I upgraded to these and haven't had any issues in the 6 months I've had them.
Love G-Drives! Only external HD I use anymore. I'm a professional photographer and rely heavily on these drives for speed, dependability, portability, and ruggedness.
