Intel's "Kaby Lake X" Core i5 CPU is cheaper than you might expect, but it offers little advantage over Intel's mainstream chips and demands a costly motherboard. Also, like-priced AMD Ryzen 5 CPUs support many more threads, for much quicker media crunching.

+
Kaby Lake architecture enables 4K streaming support., Less expensive than previous enthusiast Intel chips.
-
-
Similar performance to mainstream Core i5 chips, but requires a pricey motherboard., Only 16 PCIe lanes.
Right, so this four cores and no hyper-threading proc still is a 112 Watt TDP processor. With the system at idle with a GeForce GTX 1080 installed / 8 GB memory / SSD and the X299 motherboard I hovered at roughly 45~50 Watts in IDLE. That's just lovely really.
For PC builders or upgraders seeking a moderate-price CPU for multitasking, playing games, and running common consumer applications, AMD's Ryzen 5 2600X offers superb bang for the buck.
-
+
Plenty of cores and threads for modern multi-threaded apps., Handles multi-tasking like a champ., Inexpensive alternative to AMD's flagship Ryzen 7 processors., Unlocked multiplier will make overclockers happy.

Single-threaded workload performance lags a little behind Intel's similar-class processors., No integrated GPU.
I haven't try this yet but it doesn't come with stock cooler what a bummer
Both Windows and Linux crashes at the begin and can't boot up even tried multiple time system recovery by S/W. I had to replace the CPU to fix the issue. Sadly giving 1 star rating (I'd rather to give 0 star if such option exists).
Clocked it to 4.9 running stable.
Seams to work as advertised. I overcooked it to 5Ghz on accident, let it run for an hour that way, it didn't even balk. I will not push it that hard again, but will start pushing when I have the time.
It performs as expected
