According to Microsoft the new Surface Book 2 combines the best of two worlds and is also the most powerful Surface device yet. The specifications look promising, thanks to the new Kaby Lake-R processor and Nvidia's Pascal GPU.
-
+
high-quality case, very good screen without PWM, high performance, despite passive cooling, very long battery runtime, comfortable input devices, decent camera, often silent
-
-
very loud GPU fan (depending on the power setting), power adapter not always sufficient, no Thunderbolt 3, Surface Pen not included anymore, considerable throttling (especially CPU) on battery, display bounces during touch inputs, no LTE connectivity, basically impossible to maintain, long charging...
Microsoft’s Surface Book 2 is the most technically impressive laptop we’ve ever tested. Its beautiful, powerful, portable, and versatile. It’s also expensive at $2,500 to start – and $3,300 as-tested — but, given everything available here, the company would be a bit daft to sell it for less.
-
+
Great keyboard and touchpad, Versatile, and light when used as a tablet, Sharp, high-contrast, pixel-dense touchscreen, Excellent performance in all areas, Unparalleled battery life
-
-
Display’s color accuracy could be better, Battery discharges at load even when plugged in, Extremely expensive
The Surface Book 2 is a feat of design, a top-of-the-line premium convertible 2-in-1 laptop that's fast, long lasting, versatile, and portable. It's even up for gaming.
-
+
Premium alloy construction. Elegant convertible design. Sharp high-resolution touch display in new larger size. Discrete Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics. Very long battery life. Multiple configuration options. Xbox wireless controller receiver is integrated.
-
-
16GB RAM maximum. Surface Pen is an additional purchase. Adding SSD storage is pricey. Some finicky issues required troubleshooting in our tests.
Microsoft adds to its "ultimate laptop," the Surface Book 2, by increasing the performance, battery life, and display size.
-
+
Top-notch, all-day battery life, Excellent performance, particularly in graphics, Stellar display, complete with additional visual modes
-
-
Premium notebook, premium price, Underpowered Dock makes multi-monitor support problematic, USB-C without Thunderbolt is a mistake
The Surface Book 2 is a satisfying sequel, but like many sequels, it may be trying to broadly serve too many audiences.
-
+
The new Surface Book 2 adds a long list of worthy upgrades, from new CPUs and gamer-ready graphics cards to a bigger 15-inch version. Battery life and performance are both excellent.
-
-
The two-in-one design still feels awkward at times, and for some users, the detachable screen may be superfluous. The most interesting new components are only available in very expensive configurations.
After a somewhat shaky start (excuse the pun), Microsoft's Surface Book has found its stride. The new and improved Book 2 retains all that was good about the original - including beautiful design, a versatile Clipboard and an excellent keyboard and trackpad - while introducing a handful of...
-
+
Beautiful design, Clipboard works a treat, Excellent keyboard and trackpad, Gorgeous 3:2 PixelSense display, Chart-topping battery life, Fanless base specification, Good range of accessories
-
-
Doesn't support Thunderbolt 3, Surface Pen not included
A powerful portable desktop PC
-
+
Great keyboard and trackpad, Powerful machine with Nvidia graphics, Xbox Wireless support

Display still wobbles when you touch it, Battery can drain under heavy GPU load, No Thunderbolt 3 support
2015 seems to have been a turning point for Microsoft's Surface hardware initiative. Despite the failure of Windows RT and the associated Surface RT, the Intel-powered Surface was beginning to gain some real traction and notoriety with the Surface Pro 3 in late 2014, but was still fairly niche.
Microsoft have been striving to present a stark alternative to Apple’s coffee-shop-ubiquitous Macbook line for a while now. In the past, their Surface range of (mostly) hybrid laptops/tablets have hardly been gaming machines, but that’s now changed with current range-topper, the shockingly expensive...
So to the big question: is the 15in Surface Book 2 worth the high price Microsoft demands? For some people, the answer will be a clear “yes”. If you have good reasons to opt for a 15in screen, want the extra power on offer and love the Surface Book 2’s unique form factor, then close your eyes and...
After comparing the features, it was an easy decision to replace my MacBook Air with the Surface Book 2. I enjoyed my Surface Pro 4 so much that I knew I wanted a 2 in 1 which the MacBook Pro is not.
Safe to say this is the most powerful 2n1 in the market and it's only matched by its refined construction. So your absolutely paying for it no question but it's a great experience to game and travel with style. It's more than a laptop it's an experience.
The surface book I got seems very mediocre and even a little slow at times. Yes it does have a good battery life but I find mine to be rather fragile. After a few months it started taking longer and longer to turn on before it eventually refused to turn on.
My first one I purchased had to go back doa, within 20hrs, their quality control isn't very good considering the price you pay for it.I also struggled to believe that it took some incomprehensible amount of time to have the laptop fully updated and ready to use, somewhere north of 12hrs of straight...
I bought this a few weeks ago in the maroon colour. Its awesome. Lovely device and all my friends are jealous.
Owned for a month now and it keeps up with everything I need it to. Tablet gets a bit warm when running programs like photoshop off the dock, but other than that it’s flawlesss!!
I think this is the single best piece of hardware I've owned. The power and flexibility, I believe, is unparalleled. I'm a long-time Apple fan and have had two Macs, three iMacs, three MacBook Airs and an arsenal of iPads and phones.
