The Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II shoots faster and does more than other high-end mirrorless cameras, but it's also more expensive.

  • +

Up to 60fps Raw capture. In-body stabilization. Large, sharp EVF. Vari-angle touch-screen display. High-resolution capture mode. Robust lens system. Weather-sealed body. 4K video support. Optional vertical battery grip. Wi-Fi.

  • -

Expensive. Only one SD slot supports UHS-II. Tracking focus ineffective at top speeds. 60fps shooting is limited in duration. Very bright charging LED. Omits built-in flash.

Olympus’ original OM-D E-M1 was a proof of concept. The flagship mirrorless camera demonstrated that the mirrorless Micro Four Thirds (MFT) system could succeed with enthusiast and professional photographers despite the perceived disadvantages of its relatively small sensor.

As a semi-pro option I'd say the OMD EM1 is a triumph. It has a tough weatherproof body that handles like a dream, feeling great in your hands with highly customizable but always intuitive and comfortable controls, sports one of the best electronic viewfinders around that actually delivers a...

  • +

Excellent image quality with very usable OOC JPEGs., Weather-proof body., Built-in stabilisation works with any lens you attach., Superb ergonomics, controls & customization., Large & detailed electronic viewfinder. One of the best., Titling touch-screen., Very fast single AF speed with MFT lenses.

  • -

Image quality no better than EM5 or GX7., Continuous AF isn't as confident as a DSLR using v/f., Phase Detect AF not used for movies or MFT lenses., Movies only available at 30fps., Focus peaking only for stills, not movies., Timelapse & miniature movies encoded at low frame rate.

The E-M1 does a lot of things very well, starting with the specification. It’s incredibly comprehensive and we’re sure that both enthusiast and professionals alike won’t be left wanting.

  • +

Build quality; Electronic viewfinder is excellent; Fast and responsive AF; Image quality

  • -

JPEG files a little over-processed at higher sensitivities

The new Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II is designed to hold up to inclement weather and boy did we put it to the test! During a press trip to Iceland last week, we adhered to the mailman’s creed while using Olympus’ new flagship mirrorless camera, shooting with it in rain, hail, sleet, snow and gloom of...

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 is a fantastic mirrorless camera that is designed for the advanced or professional shooter. Those without sophisticated photography knowledge will get easily lost in the numerous features and functionality.

  • +

Great image quality, Weather proofed, Awesome grip, Great autofocus, Great viewfinder and LCD screen, DSLR-like feature set

  • -

Noise can be an issue at high ISOs, Cost, No second memory card slot

In most respects the E-M1 does a good job bridging the gap between a traditional DSLR and a Micro Four Thirds camera. Its controls and customizability may overwhelm less hands-on users, but those who don't mind tinkering will love its flexibility.

  • +

Sturdy, weather-resistant body with lovely retro styling, Excellent image quality, Chromatic aberration corrected in-camera making JPEGs more usable, 2x2 interface puts more controls at your fingers, Impressive number of customizable controls, Bright, sharp electronic viewfinder, Reliable Wi-Fi...

Olympus is pushing the limits with its new ILC (Interchangeable Lens Camera), the OM-D E-M1. This compact camera has been designed to provide professional quality features, performance and image quality without the size and price tag that is associated with a professional camera.

  • +

iAuto shooting mode is accurate and easy in all situations, Dedicated Video Capture Button is always ready to record Full 1080p movies, Sealed Body and Magnesium Alloy frame provide a tough, go anywhere camera, Excellent overall image quality, Great Low-Light performance, Manual Mode offers complete...

Olympus put a great deal of effort into producing a flagship mirrorless camera that can match up against all but the most powerful DSLRs. While the EM-1 is slightly more expensive than comparable DSLRs, its weatherproofed body means enthusiast shooters need not fear adverse weather.

  • +

Great image quality, 10 fps burst shooting mode, Sharp, informative electronic viewfinder, Fast autofocus, Large number of customizable controls, Weatherproof magnesium alloy body

Taking over from the first OM-D, the E-M1 delivers nearly impeccable performance worthy of its flagship status. This model features a state-of-the-art 16 megapixels CMOS sensor with built-in Phase-Detect autofocus while keeping its predecessor's 5-axis image-stabilization and super-sonic...

I'll provide a detailed review after more time with this camera. After just 24-hours, so far, I'm impressed with the engineering and thought that's gone in to this model.I'm also an OMD EM-1 owner, and expected the remote shutter release to work similarly - via the USB port.

I began my venture into 4/3rds photography with a Lumix GF1 and was so delighted with what mirror-less can do I explored for a camera that would meet my needs. Tried out Sonys. But once I used an Olympus 5 I quickly bought the E-P5 and finally the OM-DE-M1.

Everything you can expect from a well made pro camera. The list is long and can be found at the Olympus website without hype! The best of the best!

My advice is patience with settings. The camera offers more than one way to many of the settings. Once you arrive at what you want to use, leave it be.

I've been using this camera for going on three years and I absolutely love what it can do; I primarily use it for photographing birds. Being an advanced beginner, I know there are many features I don't use, but I'm getting used to new ones little by little and as I want more versatility and...

This is a very good camera. The focusing was very good in it's day and Olympus especially made it better when they continued to release firmware updates. It has a great EVF and Olympus added the ability to increase the frame rate which made it smoother.
