The hdmi only passes through video, not audio. If you are connecting a blu ray player or dvr, you need to hook up optical cables from your auxillary equipment to this receiver in order to get sound. Or if your tv has audio out connections, you can use them to connect to the receiver to get sound.
I've been using this product for almost a year now. It has been a good receiver overall. But ... I just recently tried to use the HDMI inputs and ran into unexpected limitations: The receiver does not decode the audio from the HDMI sources so you have to hook up an additional digital audio...
this is an ausom sounding unit, lots of power, plenty of functions for the person really into surround sound. i think pioneer is about the best on the market, personally.
This is a beautiful unit. It has HDMI hookups for DVD player and monitor plus all other formats including optical. DTS, Dolby Digital, THX certified, ProLogic 1 & 2, the list goes on and on. You can adjust audio effects to many different room settings. For the money, this is one grand receiver.
Pros? Its Pioneer. It's black.Good sound. Dislike? Cheap plastic face plate. Receiver's dimension: is longer than wider. Booklet is really cheap, made of cheap paper with hard to see font, its kind of Wall Mart quality. Remote also looks and feels cheap.
Very fast and it was just as advertised. New in box and I am very happy with the price. My 9 year old Sony died what a change in receivers I love how it controls my Ipod from the remote. The sound is great and brought to life my home viewing to the next level.
This Pioneer Elite receiver has overall pleased me to the fullest. The sound is full, crisp and clear with no distortion at high levels. Operations can be tricky but is always with todays receivers. After messing around with all the features for a few hours, I was very pleased.
