This microphone is perfect for someone who records on the go or mainly from home. It works great in open spaces and does a good job of not picking up background noise when recording. I have used it for some small demo work in public places if I need to record a quick idea or even a voice over.
With inexpensive mics seemingly as common as guitar picks, one must ask, “Does the world need another cheap mic?” But after testing the AT2020 , my answer is a resounding, “Yes!” Because the AT2020 is anything but “another cheap mic.” The AT2020 provides pleasant surprises in several areas.
The AT2020 is Audio-Technica's entry-level, side-address studio condenser mic. It brings the company's build quality and consistency into the same street price range ($100) as many of the Shanghai-made Neumann U87 look-alikes.
No one can beat this Audio Technica mic for $99. The sound is clear, beautiful, and professional. If your budget it less than $100, get this one! Between this mic and a $499 one, I think I wouldn't be able to hear a difference in sound quality.
You can easily spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars on wonderfully high-quality, extremely precise studio condenser microphones...and if you own a bona fide professional recording studio, you may want to do just that!!
This is an awesome condenser mic for the first time Podcaster or VO artist. Most pros will steer you away from a USB mic, but unless you want to drop a lot of money on other equipment, USB is the way to go for a beginner.
