The 5040UB may not be anything close to a true native 4K UHD projector but this really doesn’t matter too much in practical viewing terms, and especially where this device’s HDR capacities enter the picture, quite literally.

Excellent color performance, Full HDR support, Good brightness, Versatile lens controls, Easy to use, Video looks wonderfully crisp, sharp

No true 4K resolution or even upscaled 4K, No pro installation features of 6040UB twin, HDR could be a bit better, Motion handling doesn’t work with resolution upscaling
The Epson 5040UB really improves with a calibration. The image you can get at the end is fantastic, but you will need to do some adjustments to get it there. The Natural preset is a good starting point for SDR, while HDR should start with Cinema.
The Epson 5040UB projector is an incredible addition to your home theater. It delivers 4K enhancement and HDR support that makes movies and games pop, and it’s capable of delivering what you need to take your movies to the next level.
I bought this for my home theater set up since I was getting rid of my TV, the Epson projector was very to set up and the image and color is great! I went with an inexpensive screen, a Silverticket 106, because of it's excellent ratings for the price...
Just a simple review here. My setup is 135" grey silver ticket screen. I dont have a completely blacked out room. My room is a normal room and all the lights can be turn off for movie or leave on for sports and tv show. The picture is excellent and very sharp, even with a some dim light on.
I haven't used it with 4K or HDR input, but I'm really happy with this projector so far. Very bright. I have it projecting on a 135in screen.
Great picture quality. I got the same power issue and I called and changed my unit 2 times. I figured out if you disconnect the power cable every time after you finish watching its fine. It starts right away no issues. Try it. Nothing can beat the clarity of Epson 5040ub. I love it.
Incredible picture and a great value compared to a true 4k projector. Easy to understand on screen menus made set up a breeze.
I took my time before writing this about 30 hours of viewing and pretty much did it all from gaming to 3d to 4k and 1080 i and p ... to start I’m coming from a 4k Sony and my eyes are used to that type of picture quality so to me it truly needs the darkest room possible to shine..
My ps4 pro setup loves the signal from this projector, sharp colors, HDR, good refresh rate and BRIGHT
We went from an epson 2030 to the 5040. The black levels are so good on the gray screen that it looks truly black in dark scenes. I was just amazed. The 4k enhancement is very noticeable and makes the picture crystal clear on a 175 inch screen.
Output great image with high color accuracy, but unfortunately the Epson didn't put a full speed 18gb HDMI chip inside, so you won't get 4K HDR 10bit at 60fps. The most I can get out from it is 4K HDR 10bit at 30fps using Nvidia Shield TV custom setting.
Good pic for the money
