We found the Garmin Virb XE to have more functions than that average shooter will use. It does classic time-lapse images, shoots up-close candid stills, and rolls 1080p high-definition video at 60 frames a second.

The VIRB X and VIRB XE are top-end action cams with built-in sensors to read speed, GPS, gyroscope and accelerometer data, and more.
I have both the Sony actioncams and GoPro Heror 3 and 3+ Black. While I like both, I was looking for more. I think that the VIRB has it. I love the absence of another external waterproof case. I really like the menu's and displays. Picture quality is excellent.
