Expensive- price tag higher than drives of similar capacity
It’s fair to say that LaCie’s Rugged drives don’t look like anything else out there. The stout aluminium shell and garish rubber sleeve are certainly distinctive. We’re not certain it’s something we’d want on our desk, however.
LaCie has a strong USB 3.0 enclosure that is fast, reliable and cheap. Chris takes a look and shows us that USB 3.0 storage doesn't have to break the bank.
We use many of these drives - definitely our preferred portable. Fast and pretty durable. We have a some of these still being cleared and reused after 3 years. They do not slide off of desks with the grippy bumpers. Easy to format to whatever is needed. Thunderbolt is a nice bonus for speed.
I use this drive as a secondary/redundant time machine backup drive. It mirrors my other/current 500GB Iomega drive. Besides running hot, it does the job well. Runs very quiet, I hardly notice it at times. I would give it five stars, but for me the "running hot" issue is a concern to me.

Runs Hot
I waited for a year to pass before posting a review because I saw so many negative reviews on this drive on here. I really like this drive and use it to travel with my virtual machines for work.

Gets a little warm so don't put it under anything where it can't breathe. I accidentally put my jacket on it one day and it was really hot after that.
This is a very good drive for travellers and telecommuters. I do both, and use this drive in both situations - both for work files and media (photo backup, music and videos for long flights). It works well and it's very portable.
