I have purchased several LaCie external HD products over the years. They have vastly improved. This is a well built quality product. It's a little more expensive than cheaper plastic offerings, but well worth it.
eSATA is super-fast compared even to 1394b. I'm using this 2big Quadra with the supplied 1m eSATA cable and no problems whatsoever. Only concern for some might be fan noise, especially if placed up on a desktop or in frequent use.

Solid build, flexible connectivity, easy to set up. eSATA is extremely fast. Fan runs only when needed to cool the unit.

When running, the fan seems louder than my full tower, which has 5 internal fans going all the time. I use the 2big Quadra for unattended backups, so noise is not a big issue for me, though I must withhold 1 egg.
Seems to cause shutdown issues and other problems with other devices. It's basically worked thus far, but I'm having a lot of trouble shutting down cleanly since I've begun using this array.
Use this for video editing at my job. Had a WD My Book Pro II before and this is much nicer.

Very solid build quality, drives are easily removable, not too noisy, stays cool, I like that it has an actual on/off switch, lots of ports - 2 firewire 800 which is what I use, personally I like the look of it with the big blue eye on the front of it.

Should come in RAID 1 by default instead of RAID 0. The different RAID configurations are in layman's terms on the back. I actually had to read the manual to figure out how to switch RAID configurations. These are all extremely minor complaints though.
I bought this for a very big, very important project on which I simply couldn't afford to have technical problems. Of all the hard drives I've used in the past, LaCie has (so far) been the most dependable, and this one was no exception.
Wish I could buy more :)

I have 2 of these and the best thing about them is it's very easy to setup Raid 1 on these. No configuring just press a couple of buttons and format. That's it. I highly recommend. I use the Esata connection. Fast enough for AVID and FCP.

These are nice drives. Rather pricey but so far they have been reliable. It is hard to put a label on the drive because of the metal veins. These drives are heavy - not a surprise - just a warning that you don't want to travel with these at all.

Still going after 2.5 years. The eSata connection is pretty fast. I use this as a backup device.

I bought this thinking it had the NAS server and it does not. I still ket it and use it as a back up and so far so good but I always back up my back ups because you never know. I also bought the same with NAS serve and I a very pleased with both
