The quality of the bag is great. Good material. Seals up tight and seems like it will last a long time. The capacity for actual camera gear wasn't as great as I had hoped. Access to gear is a little cumbersome. Once you unzip the main flap there is another flap on the inner box.
It was a little tricky to get all my gear to fit in the beginning but after I figured it out, it's a great bag!
Overall, it seems to be a pretty good balance between a good hiking pack and a good camera pack. While it does support hydration systems, there is no passthrough flap for the hose. This means you need to run the hose through the zipper.
I've been using this pack for several months and it is excellent. In it I carry a Nikon D750, 24-120mm f/4 zoom, 50mm f/1.4, 20mm f/1.8 and the 200-500mm f/5.6 zoom (photo attached) and a tripod fits easily and securely on the side.
I am always on the hunt for a bag that will hold all my gear. This Lowepro bag is just big enough to carry it all but not too big that it weighs me down. All the features help organize things well. Also the exterior fabric seems very durable and water resistant.
I've been using this product for a few weeks now. The first time you pick it up and put it on it feels very heavy. I'm not sure if I got used to the weight, but it feels much more suitable now after wearing it a few times. Same goes for comfort.
This is very close from being the perfect backpack. There are many videos on youtube showing all the details, I will just add that I can put a lot more stuff than I used to carry in my Lowepro Fastback 350, including a light jacket, a lunch, a 1L bottle of water, my heavy manfrotto tripod and it...
Quality of this bag is nothing short of superb. Features are also plentiful. My only gripe is that it is a little narrow. Other than that it is literally perfect
The Whistler is a big roomy backpack, enough room for my D500 and Nikkor 200 - 500 with D610 and 24 - 70, battery charger, leads, flash, spare batteries etc in the rear compartment.
I know this is the Gen 1 model and Gen 2 probably address my problems with this bag, but my complaints are minor so I went this route to save the $150.Overall the bag is great, it holds all the camera gear I need it to and has some extra space for other kit.
