Minox 7x42 MD C Monocular (Black)

I purchased the Minox 7x42 MDC monocular as a smaller and lighter alternative to carrying binoculars hiking. I thought it would be useful for observing wildlife and for navigation with the compass.

Perfect...just what I needed. I wear glasses and the Minox are easy to focus and use. Optics are clear and bright even in cloudy conditions at dusk and dawn.

Well made, good low light performance due to large exit pupil. Compass readable and stable. Great for navigation and taking bearings. Solid construction.

This is a marine monocular with a reticle scale intended to calculate the distance to ships at sea, and the height of ships at sea. And it requires some math calculations. The brightness, color rendition, resolution, and clarity are superb.

Minox (to their credit) puts threaded mounts on nearly all of their optics. That this monocular has none is an indication of its special purpose. That purpose is determining azimuth at sea to determine position and calculate bearing.

I took a leap of faith based exclusively on Minox brand reputation to buy the 7x42 MDC monocular given that I couldn't find significant hands on reviews. I certainly do not regret the decision.
