Nikon Monarch 5 8x42 binoculars sport a low price, but at the sacrifice of performance. They are decent for a variety of outdoor activities; however, more serious enthusiasts should look elsewhere.

Awesome glass and comfortable for field use. Recently used during 2 hour birding event and never felt any discomfort. This is my second pair of Monarch's. I stepped up from 25 year old 8x40 pair to 10x42 latest version and OMG so much sharper and brighter.

I will be using these primarily for birding. I picked them after reviewing the Cornell lab reviews of "best in class" [low, mid, and pricy] These seem to give a clear, bright view.

First quality pair I've owned. Wife game them to me for Christmas in 2013. Took the place of a 50-year old no name brand with was pretty good, but the Nikon kicks them in the knees. Typical targets are 200 - 300 yards away and they do everything I'd want.

Very bright and sharp optics. Easy to focus. A true joy to use.

Lens caps don't stay on as well as I'd like. Center pivot barely makes the eye pieces wide enough for me

I'm a serious birder and have used many different binocs over my 60 years of wildlife viewing. My Monarch 5 8x42's are equal to most if not all the brands I've tried. Their attractive pricing and good quality have made them popular with many of the birders I know.

These binoculars blow my 10x50 Adlerblicks out of the water. They are noticeably clearer, sharper and more usable. They are a clear upgrade from the Monarch 3's. The compound lenses and better coatings make a real visual difference.

I received the Nikon Monarch 5 binoculars for Christmas. I have taken them to the beach to watch sailboat race's. I used them to help me sight in my rifle. They are very clear and easy too use,I love them.

I recently purchased a pair of these and they are by far the best binoculars that I have ever owned. I use them for hunting to determine cull bucks and they are great. They are light weight and very clear.

I have been very pleased with my purchase. I used them last weekend at the inaugural Indianapolis Grand Prix Indy car race for the first time. Great clarity, can't wait for my annual fall fishing trip to Montana.
