Considering it has a jaw-dropping 83x optical zoom lens, the Nikon Coolpix P900 is an attention-grabbing ultra zoom camera. No camera currently on the market can match the P900's zoom range of 24-2000mm.

+
Largest optical zoom lens on the market in a fixed lens camera at 83x, Good vibration reduction system allows for hand holding the camera for some scenes, even with zoom fully extended, Fast autofocus performance at wide angle lens setting, Good autofocus speed even at maximum telephoto setting,...

Small image sensor measuring 1/2.3-inch, Image quality and image sharpness just don't match up to other models in this price range, Low light image quality could be better, ISO range is limited to 6400, ISO performance is well below average versus other cameras in this price range, After shooting...
It's not the best megazoom around, but the Nikon Coolpix P900's lens is remarkable and if you need the most zoom on a compact camera, it's the winner.
-
+
The Nikon Coolpix P900 features an unmatched 83x zoom lens allowing you to use it for just about anything from close-ups and landscapes to portraits to birding and wildlife photography.

It lacks features more advanced users might want like raw image capture, a hot shoe and mic jack. Images are soft and lack fine detail when fully zoomed in. The autofocus system can be hit or miss and is slow to focus in low light. The lens does make it heavy compared to other megazooms.
The Nikon Coolpix P900 boasts the longest zoom range of any camera on the market, but a lack of detail at higher ISOs holds it back.

83x zoom lens. Excellent image stabilization system. Full manual controls. Eye-level EVF. Vari-angle LCD. Quick autofocus. In-camera GPS and Wi-Fi. 1080p60 video capture.

Detail suffers at moderate ISOs. No Raw support. Long recovery times after burst shooting. Large and heavy. No hot shoe. External charger not included.
I can’t help but have a certain affection for the Nikon Coolpix P900. Granted, it did not come through as consistently as I would’ve hoped, but that 2000mm optic in a camera under $600 is still noteworthy.
Nikon debuts a compact camera with a huge zoom--and it's a pretty solid shooter.

83x optical zoom, Excellent macro mode, Viewfinder and tilting LCD, Bright f/2.8-6.5 lens

No quick menu, Noise reduction could be improved, Images less sharp at full zoom, Autofocus not available in video
The Nikon Coolpix P900 is prosumer ultra-zoom with an unmatched 2000mm reach, starting at an ultra-wide 24mm, for 83X optical zoom. This digital camera is truly packed with features, including a complete set of manual controls and advanced features such as an Interval-Timer and Time Lapse-Video .

Smooth usable output until ISO 1600, Very consistent image sharpness, Highly effective optical image stabilization, Virtually no chromatic aberrations, Very low optical distortion, Dual control-dials and zoom controllers, Generally quick and responsive, Good overall handling, Great LCD visibility,...

Slight image softness from base ISO, Details smudged from ISO 800+, Below average color and WB accuracy, Dim telephoto aperture noticeably slows AF, Unresponsive while writing, 1s delay when starting video capture, Not usually Exposure-Priority, Slow access to ISO, Tiny low-contrast EVF, Poor tripod...
The Nikon Coolpix P900 is a delightful camera to use. It excels in the defining feature for this class of camera — optical zoom — not just by boasting the biggest spec, but also by offering the crisp optics and superior image stabilization that are required to make the feature useful.
-
+
Longest zoom range, Excellent image stabilization, Good overall photo quality, Fares well in low light, Clear electronic viewfinder

Details sometimes appear a bit soft, Quite bulky and heavy, Pricey, Lacks RAW image capture
The Nikon Coolpix P900 , ( ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ) is capable of yielding fairly good quality images at low ISO setting (100), but as with all small (1/2.3 inch) sensor cameras, image quality drops off rapidly as ISO is raised. This is because the noise reduction required at even moderate ISO settings...
With unprecedented optical zoom range for a fixed lens camera, extending all the way to a 2000mm eq. optical reach, and with an approachable price tag of $600, the Nikon P900 is a great value for anyone needing extensive zoom range in an all-in-one package.
-
+
Farthest zoom reach for a fixed lens camera (2000mm eq.); Good image quality for its class; Good vibration reduction; Fast aperture at wide angle (f/2.8); Excellent value for the price.

No RAW file recording; Limited capabilities in low light, including struggling with autofocus; Lens not as sharp at full tele end; No hot shoe.
It’s all about that lens. There is no way to talk about Nikon’s excellent, though occasionally frustrating, Coolpix P900 super zoom camera without first addressing the lens. This wide-angle, telephoto wonder can, at 24mm, pull in a startling amount of visual information.
This camera has an extremely impressive zoom. Was able to take photos of animals from miles out however one main feature it was lacking was the ability to control focus point while in automatic.

Blurry, not fast, no RAW
I bought this to replace a Panasonic with a max effective focal length of 600 mm for bird photography. I thought the 2000 mm would require a tripod, but it can be handheld effectively at 1/500 seconds which is what you get with decent sunlight. The autofocus is very fast and accurate.
I always shoot in manual, which means I make a lot of adjustments on the fly. I just sold my Nikon Coolpix P600 and bought this P900 and right away I noticed a big difference in how long it takes the P900 to react to my adjustments vs the P600.

No raw (wouldn't use this for pro photo's anyway) No hot shoe Slow at processing manual changes and burst shots Bulky
I actually use this camera professionally to take realtor photographs and have found the sharpness, color, and clarity to be excellent. While more expensive cameras come with interchangeable lenses, this makes them unnecessary, since so many choices are built in.

Wonderful camera.
I bought this a few more this ago and haven't put it down. So happy with all the features, I am an amateur photographer and this camera is perfect. Easy to use and handle, the moon and bird options are great.
