The Nikon D3400 is a solid entry-level SLR camera with wireless transfer capability and a Guide Mode to help you get better shots.
-
+
Compact. 24MP image sensor. Includes lens. Solid autofocus and high ISO performance. 5.1fps continuous shooting. Guide Mode for beginners. Bluetooth wireless file transfer.
-
-
Fixed, non-touch LCD. Pentamirror viewfinder. Limited buffer when shooting Raw. Omits microphone input. Video autofocus not as advanced as some mirrorless competitors.
The Nikon D3400 is an update to Nikon's entry-level DSLR, replacing the two year old D3300. The headline new feature is SnapBridge - Nikon's low-power Bluetooth connection that allows continuous image transfer to your smartphone in the background while you shoot.
-
+
SnapBridge 'always on' Bluetooth smartphone connection., Impressive 1200 shot battery life., Improved kit lens with faster, quieter Continuous AF in Live view., Fairly lightweight body for a traditional DSLR.
-
-
Still no auto exposure bracketing., Built-in flash less powerful than D3300., Lacks the microphone input and anti-dust filter of the D3300., Battery can't be charged in-camera., Fixed screen isn't touch-sensitive.
Although the D3400 only received a modest update it still hold its own as one of the better beginner DSLRs on the market. The camera still features a 24MP APS-C CMOS sensor that offers fantastic Raw performance and punchy, yet pleasing JPEGs.
Nikon ' s latest entry-level DSLR, the 24 - megapixel D3400 , may not seem like much of an upgrade , and in some ways, it ' s not. In fact, it ' s missing a couple of features that were standard on its D3300 predecessor, such as a microphone jack and a dust-cleaning mechanism for the sensor.
-
+
Great image quality, Speedy performance, Excellent battery life, Good in low light, Easy transfer of images to mobile devices, Solid set of practical and creative features
-
-
No external microphone jack, Lack of dust-cleaning mechanism, No auto-exposure bracketing
Very good photo quality for its class plus performance fast enough to capture kids and pets make the Nikon D3400 A solid choice for a first dSLR.
-
+
The Nikon D3400 delivers the image quality and speed that a first-time dSLR buyer should expect.
-
-
A lot of the small annoyances from previous models remain, including tiny autofocus points in the viewfinder and a nonpersistent self-timer mode. Plus, its Bluetooth-only wireless solution isn't very good.
The Nikon D3400 combines great image quality from its 24-megapixel APS-C sensor with a user-friendly design and good, reliable performance across the board. Some of its capabilities may be lacking, particularly with regard to continuous autofocus, video and its new SnapBridge support, but compared...

Compact DSLR camera body, Great image quality for its class, Sharp, punchy JPEG images, Improved dynamic range over its predecessor, Excellent high ISO performance for APS-C, New AF-P 18-55mm kit lens has faster, quieter and smoother AF operation, Quick startup, Low shutter lag, Relatively fast...

Some features dropped from D3300 (ultrasonic sensor cleaning, headphone jack, accessory port, Easy Panorama, etc.), Weaker flash than predecessor, New kit lens has mixed optical performance with high chromatic aberration and geometric distortion at wide angle, Viewfinder is not 100% (typical for the...
Nikon D3400 (15.7 oz./445g with battery and card) with 18-55mm VR AF-P (about $647 with lens ) bigger . It comes complete with lens at Adorama , also in red , and at B&H , also in red .
I'm giving this camera five stars because it is extremely lightweight for a DSLR. I can easily change features using the Info button. The sensor is superb and colors are quite nice. I like to warm things up by changing the white balance slightly. Kit lens is sharp. Will use that most of the time.
The NIkon D3400 is a first-class upgrade of the D3300. Light. Precise. Excellent photos. Helpful "Guide" mode. Good kit zoom. SnapBridge to Facebook. The price is right.
Excellent package, I was in the market for a lighter camera an so far this works great, worked for 2 hours outdoors in col weather and did not experience the fatigue of my heavier camera thanks

my only complaint is the SD card does not work in my old Gateway desk top computer, so I am stumped on how to download the images.
This is a great little camera. It has all of the function of the most expensive Nikons, though you have to know to look in the menus to find the function. Same sensor as the professional camera. It is very light weight, quiet, and a pleasure to use.

Weight, price, 24 mp sensor, full functions.

Might have to read the manual to find where the function you want is.
I bought this for my wife as a Christmas present and I'm very impressed. I get out and use the camera just as much as she does. It has awesome features and I'm really impressed with the quality. The bag is great quality and is very nice. I can't say enough about this camera and this kit.
I bought the 2 lens D3400 bundle. I also own a Nikon D5100 but had dropped and broken my 18-55mm kit lens and was also looking to get a longer telephoto lens. The price of this D3400 with the two lenses was cheaper than replacing my broken lens and getting a telephoto.
Received the camera...but there is no manual. I am new to this and having a manual is essential. When I figure out how to use it I will update my review.
Positives: a physically small and light dslr capable of beautiful photos. Although it is aimed at beginners it suits more experienced users who are looking for a simple camera without too many menu options.
I will have to review this in a month or so. I purchased as a gift for my son. First impression was "wow this looks like just what I wanted"
