Outstanding SSD,didn't perform any benchmarks but based on my experience installing and using computers with other modern SSDs from Intel, Samsung, OCZ, and AData, this is among the fastest I've used. Other reviews tell me that I can expect it to be reliable for my clients as well.
Our 2010 Mac Pro had a WD Enterprise 1TB Sata and we upgraded to this OWC 480 SSD. The WD Sata had speed tests of 120 MBs write / 125 read. After installing this drive and cloning with carbon copy, the OWC tested at 250 write / 350 read.
Absolutely amazing performance. Now that I've experienced the speed of an SSD, I'll never go back to a rotational hard drive anymore. Literally, I don't get to see spinning lines when I cold boot my 2011 MacBook Pro, as it boots so fast. Astonishing!
OWC's private label drives are a bit more money, but they work when others don't. Tried to put a Samsung in my older MacBook Pro, but its power requirements were too high. The OWC drive works great.
Upgraded my laptop to the fast SSD. Now on to do the same with my main computer. From what I read, the OWC has no issues in a Mac. No need for TRIM to work. All of the management is built in to the SSD. Even though the latest OS X allows TRIM again, I didn't want the hassle.
Nice SSD that continues to operate in a 2011 Macbook Pro - trouble free. Fast too.
We ordered this for an older MacBook Pro that was dying and now it's back to perfect, working order.
This has revitilized my late 2011 Mac.
DOA - Big waste of my time - I could NOT get this SSD to Format & stay mounted on OSx 10.11.6. First I could only format for FAT32 than when I got it properly formatted for OSx it would not stay mounted. After a few minuets it would un-mount all by self.
Works perfectly, replaced the hard drive in a Mac and like I got a new computer.
