The new E-M5 Mark II is an excellent camera, and deserves an Editors’ Choice award. There are very few flaws, and the combo of the body and the M.Zuiko Pro lens is a beauty. If you’re an existing Olympus MFT user, it’s a terrific upgrade.

  • +

High-quality stills and videos, Five-axis image stabilization, Superb high ISO handling, 40-megapixel photo mode, Highly customizable

  • -

Menu system and controls slightly clunky to use, Flash not built in, No 4K support

The Olympus OMD EM5 Mark II is one of the most satisfying all-round cameras I’ve tested to date. It takes the charm of the original EM5, adds a bunch of features from the flagship EM1, complements them with a few new ones and even manages to improve some core capabilities too.

  • +

Small weatherproof body with great controls., Fantastic built-in stabilization works with any lens., Big, detailed viewfinder and fully-articulated touch screen., Fast accurate focusing with great face and eye detection., Built-in Wifi with powerful mobile app. USB tethering too.

  • -

Native image quality similar to previous models., 40MP mode requires specific conditions and lenses to shine., Continuous AF becomes less confident with fast subjects., Timelapse and miniature movies encoded at low frame rate., Slow wakeup when Quick Sleep is enabled.

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II has a unique high-resolution capture mode, but it's not the best camera for shooting fast-moving subjects.

  • +

Compact. Quick 10.4fps burst rate. Sharp EVF. Vari-angle touch-screen LCD. Excellent control layout. 40-megapixel High Res mode. In-body image stabilization. Weather-sealed design. Large lens library. PC sync socket. Wi-Fi.

  • -

Limited shots per burst. High Res mode requires sturdy tripod and static subject. Subject tracking disappoints. Omits built-in flash. Lacks 4K support.

Olympus unveiled its latest, high-end mirrorless camera this morning: the tough, small and powerful OM-D E-M5 Mark II. The E-M5 II uses a Micro Four Thirds sensor similar to the one in the previous model – it once again offers 16 megapixels of resolution – but Olympus says the Live-MOS chip has been...

A follow-up to the first Micro Four Thirds OM-D series camera, the Olympus E-M5 II has a tough act to follow. Absolutely bursting at the seams with the latest technology -- including a unique high resolution mode that takes it far beyond what its sensor should be capable of -- this 16-megapixel...

The E-M5 Mark II is the first professional Olympus Micro Four-Thirds camera to enter its second generation. Even though it falls in the middle of the OM-D family, the E-M5 Mark II has an incredibly rich feature-set which almost matches the flagship E-M1 reviewed here Olympus OM-D E-M1 while offering...

After touring 9 national parks out west with my nikon D7000, a 70-200 f4 lens, a wide angle lens, and a 65-85 lens, I called uncle! I didn't use all the lenses because my kit was just to flipping heavy.

I'm selling my big Nikon camera and all the accessories. it's just too much weight to bear.the entire Olympus camera with lenses weighs less than 1 professional lens on the Nikon.

  • +

this camera is lightweight, clear and can compete with any full frame camera. The options are so incredible one would not believe it's all in this little camera. You have to see it try it to believe it.

    nothing so far.

I bought this camera primarily for travel photography. I also have the Olympus E-PL6 which which is also a Micro 4/3 mirrorless camera but it does not have a built in viewfinder.

  • +

Light weight; full time live view on the 3 inch LCD screen; lenses are small and lightweight as compared to equivalent focal length lenses for the Canon full frame camera.

  • -

Since I have about 8 lenses for the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, I find that in order to match those lenses I will have to spend a ton of money. In addition, the Olympus has so much much flexibility and has a 200 page user manual, the learning curve is steep but I learn something almost every day.

We have had this camera for a year and love it for its versatility in all weather conditions. My boys play hockey and soccer and it has been fantastic for action shots. My wife even loves it, so you can tell that all levels of camera users are able to capture the camera's full functionality.

I know, this a very subjective review. 5000+ captures within two months, never happened to me with any camera before. The camera + the PRO lenses are a joy to use. And post-processing the raw files in OV3 gives me the results I was looking for. Just having fun… Two captures from today:

Glad I chose this camera to get back into m4/3 photography. Once you master the menu layout, the camera is a joy to use. The hi-res capability is an added bonus. It's a shame the "big boys" of cameras don't offer anywhere the sane firmware capabilities.

Best ICL camera I have owned in my 30+ years of photography. No more heavy DSLR & Lens and more importantly the IQ and other capabilities of this camera better than most DSLRs. Don't let anyone tell you that MFT sensors are inferior to full frame (unless you intend to print larger than 16X20.

An upgrade to the original E-M5 for me. I like the various tweaks that have been made to the original. The fully articulating screen took some getting used to, but now I would not want to do without it. Picture quality is superb, and the M4/3 format is so convenient.
