Its maximum f/2.8 aperture is only available at its widest focal length. The plastic body and large lens makes it feel a bit off-balance. Controls and shooting options might be intimidating for some.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 is a very impressive superzoom camera with an F2.8-4, 25-400mm lens and a one-inch sensor. Both photo and video quality are impressive, and support for 4K videos make the camera futureproof. The FZ1000 has a beautiful XGA EVF and a fully articulating LCD.

The body could use a second control dial for adjusting shooting settings, Battery life is very short when using the convenience features on the camera like WiFi., On the more expensive end for a point-n-shoot camera, Larger than most ILCs (some may like this)
This lens is coupled with a state-of-the-art 16 MP CMOS sensor with fast 9 FPS drive and full 1080p HD video capability with stereo sound. Manual-controls, including manual-focus and custom white-balance are also provided in a body with plenty of external controls.

Softness from NR above ISO 200, Noise visible at all ISO, Poor color accuracy, Very slow autofocus in low-light near telephoto, Self-timer resets, Modal EC control, Minuscule EVF, Not always Exposure-Priority
In 2013, the Sony RX10 set a very high benchmark for just what a long-zoom camera could be, with a large 1"-type image sensor and generous 8.3x zoom lens. Now, Panasonic puts forth a spectacularly-capable challenger in the 16x zoom Panasonic FZ1000, and despite the same sensor size and an even more...

by Michael ReichmannA Bridge to Somewhere...Oh yes, and this time with a number of very meaningful differences. So-called Bridge cameras are one of the categories of cameras that are doing well.
Panasonic takes on the RX10 with the FZ1000...and wins
A stunning all-rounder that'll appeal to both enthusiasts and newbies
-
+
Superb image and video quality, Huge zoom range adds to versatility, Large, crisp viewfinder
-
-
Somewhat bulky for a bridge camera
A good sensor, reliable autofocus and 4K video shooting make this one of the most capable bridge cameras to date, if you can handle its large body.
-
+
Relatively large sensor, Good image quality, Decent handling
-
-
Quite large, Limited zoom ring
Bigger isn't always better, but if you want a premium superzoom camera then physical size is an inevitable part of the package. In the case of the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 it also means a jumbo feature set, including a 25-400mm f/2.8-4.0 equivalent zoom lens paired with large 1-inch sensor.
-
+
Great image quality, stacks of physical controls, ample zoom and fast aperture, 4K video capture on board, 12fps burst mode, silent electronic shutter options up to 1/16,000th sec
-
-
It’s big, expensive, pinpoint autofocus accuracy seems to lack, no physical aperture ring, f/4.0 maximum begins at 175mm, no built-in ND filter, less premium than Sony RX10
I'm new to the DSLR world having come from film. I was going on vacation and tried to find film and couldn't find any, so I decided to buy a digital one. First stop I found a camera shop (I know, right??) and the guy sold me on a PMC-FZ200 (this one's predecessor).

trying to figure out controls on the fly - not intuitive, no printed manual
Bought this camera 4 months before a trip to Iceland. Took the time to learn many of the features and to get comfortable with the capabilities of the camera. Good thing I did, because the camera has so many settings, it takes a while to learn where to change the settings.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this camera! I was considering this camera and the fz72 with the 60x zoom. I decided on this camera for the blurred background effect. After taking this on vacation to Ft Myers Beach, I have no doubts I made the right decision. It's super simple to use.

Easy To Use, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Nice Body Color, Short Lag Time

Large, Short Battery Life
I got this as a temporary, compromise replacement for a Sony a77 Mk II that started losing images. So I went from a $1,700 camera (with zoom lens) to this $700 camera -- and WAS I IMPRESSED.
-
+
1. Good zoom. 2. Great Electronic Viewfinder. 3. Very good JPEG images without any need for post-processing 4. Easy to customize 5. Lots of high-end features like peaking, HDR, zebra.
-
-
1. 1" sensor. 2. Focus motor is noisy and is on a lot. 3. Getting it setup to do what you would like can be difficult and frustrating. 4. Flash isn't great. 5. Tends to get 'grainy' (i.e., noisy) at high zoom.
This is a great camera. Outstanding lens, great zooming ability, beautiful 4k video (which is why I bought it) and you can either set it on fully automatic (and it does a great job) or make it as customizable as you desire.
UNBOXING Videos are DUMB!!! Here is MY unboxing video of the Brand new $899 Panasonic low end version of the GH4 came out. CRITICAL UPDATE: Problem with recording in 4K continued with UHS-3 card. SOLUTION: The 4K option ONLY appears when you have MODE DIAL in MOVIE mode.
-
+
- at $899 it is HALF the price of the $1999 Sony AX-100 - EXCELLENT still camera
-
-
- 30 Minute recording limit in ALL video modes. So [when i record 2.5 hour poetry slams] i will have to constantly monitor and start and stop camera. This makes it unusable for primary sound camera in multi-cam shoots.
I'll keep this simple. This camera is amazing. I've owned several long zoom enthusiast cameras, but all had a 2/3 sensor. The 1" sensor plus an excellent quality zoom lens and superior auto focus make this camera a real winner.
My purchase went great. i am a happy customer
