The Samsung 850 EVO is a great drive. It delivers excellent performance across various workloads. It does really well in a typical desktop workloads thanks to the TurboWrite and RAPID.

Excellent performance, TCG/Opal V2.0 and IEEE1667 security support, Deep Sleep support, Low power usage, Higher endurance rating, 1TB option for mSATA drive, Price, 5 year warranty

High queue depth lags slightly behind other drives, No NVMe support for the M.2 drive, No 1TB option available for M.2 drive
If it were our money, we'd go with the Samsung SSD 850 EVO M.2 for two simple reasons: It's the full package, and Samsung has shown in the previous gen that even if anything untoward crops up longer-term, it will make an effort to stand by its product.

Excellent all-around performance, Field-leading SSD utility software, Competitive pricing for M.2 form factor

SATA-bus only, Maximum capacity in SSD 850 EVO M.2 line is only 500GB
Performance Summary : When we closed out our review of the 2.5" Samsung SSD 850 EVO, we said, “...the 500GB drive we tested performed extremely well throughout our battery of tests. The drive performed well with large sequential transfers and also offered very low access times.
TRIM Performance: While SSDs offer many benefits, there are some downsides to using flash memory. One of the biggest issues people run into is performance degradation. Over time, an SSD will run out of fresh blocks and will have to write over data the file system has marked as deleted.

Write speed drops when TurboWrite buffer is full, RAPID mode is Windows only
Honestly I was not expecting mSATA to perform as well as it did. Very impressive. That goes for both form factors, albeit the 120GB version of the M.2 form factor based SSD was disappointing in write performance.
To help maintain Samsung's market share, the M.2 of the 850 EVO is being introduced into the growing M.2 marketplace. Boasting almost no difference in performance across all form factors the Samsung 850 EVO M.2 will show you what this form factor can really accomplish.
Just as with the SSD 840 EVO, Samsung has successfully transitioned its mainstream SSD offering to smaller form factors with little to no impact on performance and features. Having so much storage available in so little space still impresses, and the mSATA drives are bound to appeal to fans of mini...
The 850 EVO strengthens Samsung's grip on the mSATA SSD market with good performance and even lower power consumption.

Very power efficient, Overall strong performance, 1TB of flash in very small form-factor, The older EVO 840 EVO mSATA outperformed it in some categories
The appeal for mobile device or small PC format owners is obvious, both formats offer high capacity, desktop like performance, encryption and low power consumption. The whole package is backed by a 5 years limited warranty. Who say one can not have the cake and eat it too?
Samsung has morphed their successful 850 EVO drives into M.2 and mSATA form factors to meet the demands of shrinking devices while keeping all of the great aspects of the 2.5″ drive in a tiny package thanks to their 3D V-NAND.
Used this as my windows drive alongside a HDD storage drive in a laptop. Its good and cheap. Though I wouldn't pay the price if it wasn't on sale. Worked well in a raid 0 or 1 config. Got slightly slower after a year.

This is my first M.2 ssd and I like it. I bought a Startech USB 3.0 adapter in order to clone a 128 GB M.2 ssd to this one. The drive is keyed as "B and M" and you want to make sure that your motherboard accepts it.

I bought the Samsung 500GB 850 Evo M.2 SSD. I installed in the Dell Optiplex 5040 Desktop which has the M.2 SSD slot. I used Samsung software to clone my Windows 10 with ease. The samsung 00GB 850 Evo M.2 SSD is very fast. So far it's working fine for me about two weeks now.
Samsung Data Migration was very simple to use and totally successful on first try. Expected that I would need sector-to-sector clone application, such as EaseUS or AOMEI, but no reason.Used Samsung Magician first on an 850 EVO 2.5" SSD, purchased year earlier, to update the firmware after Tech...
I was debating whether I should buy a new laptop or not but I did some on research and the primary reason my computer was lagging was bc of the hard drive. Now that I have it installed, my computer works a lot faster as new. I'm going to delay buying a laptop for another few years.
