Sony’s MDR 7520 is something of an “anti-Beats” headphone that fashionistas will shun, but its real strength is its neutrality.
Professional monitor sound, par excellence!, Extended high-frequency response, User-replaceable cable
No-frills design, Not as open sounding as open-back headphones
My initial impressions of this headphone were good, but it has taken a week for me of careful listening to really appreciate their qualities and purpose. Ultimately, I love these headphones and their sound signature. The 7520 doesn’t sound like ‘consumer’ cans.
Detailed, dense sound field yet with excellent clarity and separation. Accented articulate bass and sub-bass range that doesn’t bleed into mids
Sounds a bit closed in and rolled off on the high-end. Creaky. Shallow pads may cause discomfort especially for big eared head-fiers.
As a looong time Sony headphone user for location film sound and studio voiceover, I have used the 7506, the 7509, and splurged on these 7520. The sound is accurate, full, and terrific. Best I have ever owned. BUT..
I use these for music monitoring and practice. I have never been a fan of open back phones. This closed design is comfortable, isolating and very well balanced through frequency spectrum. Can listed for extended periods of time without fatigue. Highly reccomended.
Balanced, Extened Listen Comfort
