The pandemic has made clear that low-resolution webcams are only the tip of the video calling iceberg: in an ideal world we’d all have our own cameraperson to make sure the angles were perfect.
-
+
Camera auto-tracking is smooth and effective, Stereo speakers have punch to fill a room, Alexa keeps getting more abilities, Easily-controlled privacy
-
-
Auto-framing does have limits, A dedicated speaker sounds better for the price, Limited services that the clever camera works with

The Echo Show 8 is more responsive, with a great camera and speakers to boot. But the software still holds it back. ...
-
+
Excellent dual speaker system, Improved responsiveness, 13MP camera captures excellent video, Affordable price
-
-
Unintuitive software, Buggy camera software, Occasional echo in calls, No audio out port

The new Echo Show 8 is made for connecting with people both inside and outside your home. The camera has had a huge glow-up and now boasts 13 megapixels (compared to the 1st gen’s 1 MP), and the Echo Show 8 offers more Alexa functionality than ever.
-
+
13 MP, responsive camera, Large HD display, Nearly endless functions with Alexa
-
-
Zoom connectivity is iffy

The Amazon Echo Show 8 is an excellent compromise between the too-small Echo Show 5 , and the too-expensive Echo Show 10. It’s not a groundbreaking device, but it doesn’t need to be. If your smart home is in Amazon’s ecosystem, then the device is well-worth buying.

A better camera, smarter features, and video calling make this a good upgrade

No native YouTube, Touch experience not great, No Zigbee smart home hub

Smart speakers are cool and all, but smart displays are pretty much the perfect addition to any home or office. Amazon and Google are leading the way with their smart displays, while Lenovo has a tendency of releasing some Assistant-powered options every once in a blue moon.

Compact with an 8inch screen, the Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen, 2021) is one of the best smart displays for most people. Its camera, speakers and smart features are all impressive - it’s hard not to recommend!

Alexa is always improving, 13MP camera with privacy shutter, Good sized screen

No 3.5mm audio port, Not that different from the 1st generation, Only comes in black or white

Audio is a little bass-heavy, Potential privacy concerns with the camera
This Echo Show 8 is a wonderful companion to have. It not only greets you via face recognition but can anser just about any question you can provide to Alexa. I really enjoy sitting in my easy chair and ask Alexa to please turn on the lamp that is next to me.
The new camera features are great. The camera can track you and center you for video calls, real time, and it does it accurately Speaking of the camera, the camera upgrade is insane. Went from 1MP to 13MP.The processor is supposed to be much more powerful.
Thus is the 2nd Echo Show 8 to be added to my home. Never have any problems. Works great with Alexa, home automation and Ring cameras
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were super excited to try out the latest generation of the Amazon Echo Show. Set-up was very easy on the device itself but you do need the Alexa app on your phone to finish set up and make more advanced changes, such as add/delete Alexa skills.
I mainly got this for use as a Bluetooth speaker for my iPod and light Alexa use and I love my new echo show 8 the sound quality is amazing The sound is clear and sounds Hi-Fi and the bass is huge Voice recognition is great too and I love how you have an equalizer to adjust the sound quality Highly...
Love it we can now see who is at our front door from out back yard garage using the ring/alexa app along with other house lights, locks, etc. It was very easy to set up too. It acts also like an intercom with your front door ring app and if you have another Echo show in your home you can call...
I purchased this so that I can connect it to my ring doorbell rather than relying on my tv to be on. The speakers are okay and loud enough. I love that I can also just pull up recipes while in the kitchen or catch up on shows.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We mainly use this model as an alarm clock in the bedroom with the camera shuttered. We use it for the daily briefings, alarms, listen to our favorite music while dressing, weather reports home and other locations, and any questions we need answers...
had a first gen echo and it worked really well. decided to get an echo plus that sounded a little better but the microphone didn’t work very well. sometimes, i would say alexa, standing in the same room as the echo plus and it would not respond but the first gen on the second floor would hear and...
Still concerned that Google is listening to my every conversation but I love it! My husband…not so much! He says very funny things to it. Political stuff. I love how the words to songs come up. Grocery lists. News. Weather. I love it. Haven’t sold my hubby on it.
