My Five Star Rating Is Based On "Sound Value!" Flat? Nope. Most Comfortable I Own? Nope. With This In Mind For Less Than $100.00 They're Still Exceptional Closed Back Cans. The Bass From My Laptop's Realtek Output Sounds Bloated, Mids Are Decent, And Top End Has Some Sizzle.

Fed Properly, They Have A Non Fatiguing Sound. (Huge Benefit) They Perform Well Above Their Modest Price

Fresh From The Box They're A Bit Snug. Bass Heavy With Some Sources. They Won't Dazzle You A Huge Soundstage. For Me, Their Fit Is More Like An On Ear Type.
For the price, the ATH-M40x is terrific value. Good, sharp sound that reveals little details in songs. I'm happy rediscovering a lot of my music as it has added new depth to my music library. Yet still, I don't love the M40x like I did my old IM70s.

- Uncomfortable after extended use, a bit light on the bass, on rare occasions treble can spike.
My preference was always Sony headphones, until I discovered these headphones. Headphones these days are designed to enhance pop music experience, altering the sound, boosting it with ton of bass, and hiding minor sound details.
These are amazing headphones. I AB'd them against another popular pair and I personally liked them best. Very balanced sounding, the lows go pretty low, the highs go high enough without being harsh. So far, I'm really liking them. Highly recommended especially for the price!!!
best bang for the buck, not too confortable but excellent sound for most genres, no effects added, not for bass heads, it has good bass. highly recommended.
These headphones are the bessst! They sound flat and accurate. They reproduce sounds very accurately. They sound like my Mackie studio reference monitors. I am very impressed to find headphones of this quality for less than 100 dollars. I am very satisfied with these headphones.
I bought these as an upgrade from the ATHM 30X model, which I gave to my son for his electronics. I have a couple of Korg keyboards, including a digital piano and a synth/workstation.
Bought these to replace my previous pair of ATH-M30Xs.
I bought these to replace a pair of M30 headphones that lasted 5+ years of heavy use. Build quality is very good and sound is good too. There is some noise isolation, but probably better choices out there if that is your goal.
Very impressed by these headphones, especially for the price. Nice flat response (no false bass boosts or anything), very light weight, quite comfy to wear for hours.
