I spent a year filming off-road drivers as they navigated rocky terrain. To call them "run and gun" would be an understatement. I went through a myriad of audio recording gear, but ultimately this little Azden (not quite a shotgun), mic worked the best.
I use this mic on my panasonic hc-v770 camcorder for recording live concerts and audition video's for my oboist teenager. I like the fact that it's both stereo and directional. I don't hear much hiss even with the camcorder pre-amp turned up a few notches. I'm happy with this product esp.
Very pleased with my purchase of the SMX-10. I use this on my Canon 5D Mk.2, recording engagement surprises mostly. Works very effectually on my Canon 5D with the audio better than what I expected. Very power microphone for it size and exactly what I needed.
Some of the more pricey mics work really well, but for someone who wants to do low-budget media production for the web and wants something solid that won't break the bank, this is a great mic.
I use the mic on my DSLR, the low cut filter works very well. I wish the cord was just a straight wire and not coiled.
Hoped to use this microphone for an externally mounted shotgun on a video camera. Turns out it's very small and light, complete with a nice shock mount and coiled cable. BUT, it's very noisy, when integrated with the Panasonic AG-HMC40 video camera with both on-camera and external AG-MYA30G XLR...
I initially used this microphone to record interviews at trade shows. I'd have the subject hold the mic "handheld", because trade shows are noisy events. The mic worked perfectly for this - because it snaps easily in and out of it's hot-shoe mount.
Great quality of sound and product
Very good mic, helps a lot with my firework vids. Captures very good sounds.
This Mic works well with my camera and Camcorder's. It has a Hotshoe Plate to attach to the Hotshoe on my gear. The Hotshoe plate has damping to isolate bumps and viabrations. The sound is not that much louder than the mics in my camera/camcorder, but the sound is cleaner and fuller.
