After 40 years, I needed to replace my Bose 501 speakers. The 501s are no longer available so I purchased the 301s. What an excellent choice. Not only do they sound great but they fit on my book shelves and blend in very well with my home theater system and look good too.
I can raise the volume as high as I care to and there is no distortion. Excellent speakers!
I finally had to replace my aging but much-loved Boston Acoustics A60 Series II speakers and wanted to find a new pair that offered comparable sound in a similar-sized form factor. Turns out finding any bookshelf speakers these days with respectable bass (without adding subwoofers) isn't easy.
The sideways and rear firing tweeters seem to make these superb for rear channel use. I have mine at an angle, and the effects on some movies are just unreal. If you own the dvd Toy-Story2, view the part where the large concrete pipe falls from a semi-trailer, and rolls across the pavement.

If you have two or four of these, and a high quality center channel, you will never ever need a sub-woofer; powered or not. I use these as my rears, with a good center channel, and high quality monitors as my fronts. I have yet to be impressed with any other pro-logic set up that I have heard.

These, like most Bose products today, are sadly made in Mexico. Nothing like another USA success story being outsourced (with our collective future) down the river. I beleive Bose was started by a single MIT engineer.
I just bought a pair of the 301s and they sound amazing hooked up to my yamaha rx e100. i have only had them for like 3 days and im very satisified with them. good value for the price

Bass is great. the two 2 inch tweeters deffinatly show at high volume. I have not gotten them to distort at any volume. They fill the room with sound not just one spot.

replaced my old bose speakers that were 20+ years old at our fitness center. nice upgrade!
These speakers sound really good. I am used to adding graphic equalizer to my set up these days but when I listened to these speakers without equalizer they sounded so good with impressive highs. I am wondering whether to still use the equalizer here. So far so good especially for the price.
i use these speakers to listen to a large variety of music and poetry and everything sounds so much better than i had anticipated. wish i had decided sooner to purchase.

The speakers have big, crystal clear sound! I'm using them as my front left and right in a 5.1 home theater system pushed by a 110 watt per channel Onkyo AV receiver. They sound far better than I expected!

Only thing I can think of is their size. However acoustically, they sound much more full than the jewel cube speakers.
fills a medium size room with sound. great sound for music dvds and concerts (dolby digital and dts). a bit lacking in imaging for movies (this i think is because of the sound every where design). and bad imaging for games using prologic format. but over all has very good sound
