Far cheaper than Canon's f/1.2 equivalent, but still a mighty good performer for a more than reasonable price

f/22 performance
Over the course of my ownership the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM has been quite impressive. Despite its color fringing in high contrast scenes, the lens performs wonderfully for almost any composition. It’s fast and accurate autofucus has helped me to capture shots I thought I had missed.
Looking for a good value in a small, light, great performing, fast lens ? Try the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Lens. The Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Lens is relatively inexpensive but yields very good image quality. It is reasonably sharp wide open, but really shines from f/2.8 on.
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is one of the best medium telephoto prime lenses in Canon's arsenal. Combination of stellar performance with both APS-C and FF type cameras and affordable price, make this lens an interesting choice for general as well as portrait photography.
This medium telephoto lens from Canon sports a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture and ultrasonic silent focusing that is performed internally for around £315.
The Canon EF 85/1.8 USM is a very good lens. It's one of Canon's best lenses and it's certainly near or at the top of the list of Canon's best value lenses. It's far and away better in all respects than any comparably priced zoom lens, and probably arguably better than any zoom lens regardless of...
Digital camera resolution and 50% MTF was measured using this methology .

The Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM offers an equivalent focal length of 136mm when coupled to Canon APS-C D-SLRs like the EOS 50D, 7D, or more recently announced EOS 600D, and features a maximum aperture of f/1.8.
The Canon EF 85 mm f/1.8 USM is a lens almost 20-year-old. Looking at its achievements we must admit its age makes itself felt. The lens doesn’t break any resolution records, its anti-reflection coatings are not of the highest quality, it doesn’t feature any low-dispersion glass elements and maybe...

well-made casing,, very good image quality in the frame centre,, good or decent image quality on the edge of APS-C sensor and full frame,, lateral chromatic aberration corrected splendidly,, low distortion,, slight astigmatism,, sensibly low vignetting on APS-C,, fast and efficient autofocus,, good...

noticeable longitudinal chromatic aberration,, modest accessory kit,, lack of repeatability of particular specimens.
I have one zoom lens (18-135) and all the rest are prime. My two favorites and most used are the 85mm f.2.8 and 28mm f.2.8 which give beautiful and sharp images without having to use the zoom. In both cases the very low weight makes them an additional pleasure.
Was gifted to me for a christmas present. Performs better than I expected for the affordable version. DOF is right where it needs to be, bokeh is just right, and it doesn't focus hunt on my 1Dmk3. .
Great lens, especially for the price! Auto focus speed is fast and accurate. Bokeh is smooth and beautiful! Light weight but sturdy build. If you're thinking about getting this lens, don't delay! It's definitely worth the asking price!

Fast AF, sharp, beautiful bokeh

No Hood included
An outstanding portrait lens for Canon shooters on a tight budget, or even those who can afford anything. Not as beautiful as the 85/1.2, but smaller, lighter and quicker handling.

Fast f/1.8 maximum aperture, good bokeh, sharp from corner to corner, fast focus, cheap

Bokeh not as smooth as the pro lenses, plasticky build
Having sampled the delights of the Nifty Fifty on my EOS 7D, I thought that it'd be fun to go slightly longer and get the 85/1.8. I wasn't disappointed. Bad bits first... Purple fringing can be quite bad at f1.8, plus the lens is very edge-soft when wide-open. Good bits, as there are loads of 'em...

I Can't Come Up With One
I bought this lens for low light work. It has a good reputation for sharpness. It's light, very sharp, focuses well and for portraits gives a nce depth of field. Everything I wanted.

I don't have any cons right now. I felt it was a good investment for the money and it hasn't let me down.

Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Sharpness, speed
I use the lens for action shots at dog shows. Most of the time the lighting leaves a lot to be desired at these events. (indoors) This lens is fast and accurate and blurs out a lot of the activity that you do not want to see in the background.
