Sharp throughout range. Affordably priced. Ultra-wide angle field of view. Optically stabilized. STM focus motor.

Plastic lens mount. Lots of barrel distortion at 10mm. Some color fringing. Lens hood not included. Narrow aperture.
Despite its ultra-wideangle, I’d happily use the Canon 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 as a walk-around lens with a mid-range prime such as the EF 50mm f/1.4 in my camera bag. At its widest aperture the depth of field avoids being shallow, keeping large groups in focus, but with this being an ultra-wide lens it’s...
Inexpensive general purpose and telephoto EF-S zoom lenses have been in the Canon lineup for a long time, but absent was a lens that has great value in a budget APS-C/1.6x format DSLR kit: an inexpensive ultra-wide angle EF-S zoom lens.
With various other options from other manufactures, as well as another entry from Canon, APS-C shooters are certainly not without options for ultra wide-angle zoom lenses. The latest entry into this the category -- the Canon EF-S 10-18mm Æ’/4.5-5.6 IS STM -- is the best bang for you buck for this...
Specification This compact ultra-wide angle lens for Canon APS-C format digital SLRs features Canon's latest stepping focusing motor technology, which promises, smoother, quieter autofocus performance, which is especially suited to recording video.
It is quite amazing that budget lenses like this are able to deliver image quality you'd expect from top of the range, professional quality glass from a few years ago. This lens delivers excellent sharpness, low CA and reasonable distortion, which is fantastic for a lens costing under £300.

Excellent sharpness, Lightweight, Compact, Fast focusing, Image stabilisation, Very good value for money

No hood included as standard
I admit I am a huge proponent of ultra-wide angle lenses. I can’t imagine a holiday trip without such a device in my bag. The fact that the Canon enlarged its offer by another wide angle lens aimed at amateur photographers is, in my opinion, an excellent move.

excellent image quality in the frame centre at all focal lengths,, decent image quality on the edge of the frame,, low longitudinal chromatic aberration,, lack of problems with spherical aberration,, proper distortion control,, slight coma,, good astigmatism control,, fast, silent and accurate...

plastic casing and mount,, high vignetting,, weak performance against bright light.
The mirrorless gang may have all the attention at the moment. However, Canon showed once more that the quality crown still belongs to DSLR systems - even and especially regarding low cost lenses.
You'll get good focus range with very good to perfect sharpness from center to corners and no noticed aberration around the edges of the field for a very reasonable price. Its very compact and lightweight. Colors in pictures are crisp.
For the 249 I paid it is a steal! Incredible value. The hood should be used for best results.

Nothing for this price.
I didn't mention money because everyone knows how affordable it is. So what about the quality of the lens. I evaluate by the results and the results are great. I like it for car shows, people, groups and interiors.
Very nice lens. Fast silent focus, sharp lens for the price. Was just what I was looking for with a crop sensor camera. Gives you a very nice wide angle for those exaggerated shots that you can get without a wide lens. I just wish it was a faster lens instead of starting off with f4.5

Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Wide Effect On Crop

Not a fast lens
Not L quality but it was not meant to be at this price point. For what it is, it does the job. 16-29mm on my crop cameras. Nice! I have not tried video on my 70D but the quiet motor should work fine.

Sharp Lightweight Quiet focusing Price (thanks Canon for the instant rebate)

EF-s mount and cannot use on my 5D2
My new reasonably price go to extra wide angle lens. Great for landscapes and interior shots for real estate listings.

Lightweight, image stabilisation.

Vingetting at widest aperture.
I bought this as a package. The backpack was excellent the filters as advertised, the cleaning package good. the lens hood, however, was screw-in, not bayonet and has horizontal vignetting at 10mm setting. Not Good!! Someone should have noticed this! A bayonet mount hood would not have this problem.
