What We Love. What's not to love? The Canon RF 50mm F/1.2's premium and rugged build quality that comes with both dust-/weather-sealing and vibration shock resistance? No, that's great. Its design that's big and bulky yet somehow still surprisingly easy and comfortable to use?

Pricey
The RF 50mm F1.2 L USM is a modern take on one of Canon's classic lenses, with stunningly shallow depth of field thanks to its extra-bright f/1.2 design.

Very bright aperture. Edge-to-edge clarity. Minimal distortion. Dust and splash protection. Fluorine lens coat.

No optical image stabilization. Shows heavy vignette. Clicking control ring not ideal for video.
Not only was this designed to be a lust-worthy launch day lens for the EOS R, it was envisioned as a demonstration for what the new RF mount is capable of. The price tag is tear-inducing, but mount this fantastic lens on the EOS R and even the most vocal naysayer will be a believer in what Canon is...

A stunning, sharp L series lens, Customisable control ring, Fast, dependable autofocus

Costs as much as the EOS R itself, A bulky lens on a compact system, Lens IS would have been nice
A great 50mm prime lens has been high on the want list for many photographers and with the RF 50mm F1.2 L USM Lens, Canon has delivered big. While the price may keep such a lens on the want list for those with a tighter budget, many serious amateurs and professionals are going to find this lens to...
The Canon RF 50mm f1.2L USM is a supremely well-corrected ‘standard’ prime lens for Canon’s EOS R mirrorless system. It delivers the optical goods in every regard with crisp details into the corners, minimal distortion, and very shallow depth-of-field effects with lovely rendering.
A lot of pressure was on Canon for this 50mm f/1.2 lens. Not only does it have a high price tag, but – unlike the RF 28-70mm f/2 – it is not a world’s first. That means a lot of people, including us at Photography Life, were inevitably going to compare it against the existing 50mm f/1.2 in Canon’s...
. If you want a lens that excels in almost every way, then this is the one for you. Plus you get an f1.2 aperture, a medium format look, sharpness, fast autofocus, and weather sealing that I genuinely believe is class leading.
The RF 50mm F1.2 L USM lens features Canon's Air Sphere Coating (ASC), which significantly reduces the occurrence of lens flare and ghosting regardless of focal length or the angle of light. This helps provide clean results with minimal distractions and aberrations.
The Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM is an incredible lens with a pretty incredible price-tag. It's easily one of the best 50mm lenses that we've ever reviewed, from any brand, but it's also one of the biggest and most expensive too.
Although the RF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens represents a substantial investment in weight and cost, it also delivers at the highest levels of performance.
This lens truly is fantastic. Im attaching a couple of un-cropped images shot a f/1.2 (one inside really closeup, one outside for more of a 3/4 portrait with rider and horse). I couldnt see any vignetting or distortion in either one.
So far I am impressed with the RF system and cant wait for this to blossom into what its capable of being. That being said I love this lens. It feels really balanced on the EOS R although some have complained on those silly youtube channels that its heavy; DUH, it is. Anything of quality is.
I sprung for this lens, as I know I Primarily shoot this focal length for most of my work. Optically its amazing and I can get great sharp shots at f1.2 all the time. On the RP its a little big for a 50mm, but I did feel the need to complain like many other reviewers, the extra grip definitely...
Im fairly new to a canon family. I started with Nikon 15 years ago, but about 2 years ago I sold my Nikon gear and went with Canon. One of the first lenses I got was 50mm 1.2 By far it was my favorite lens along with 85mm 1.2. Those two lenses were my main reasons to switch to Canon family.
Big and heavy yes, but big and heavy on performance. Excellent color and resolution. Amazing detail low light capabilities are outstanding. Expensive yes,you get performance for your money. Fantastic!
The best way to describe images from the Canon 50mm RF 1.2 is magical. This lens renders images with Zeiss Otus 55mm quality. I own the Zeiss Otus as well and the new RF 50mm 1.2 images are complete with eye popping microcontrast and 3D like image quality.
The EF version was great. The RF version surpasses the EF in every way!! I sold my EF due to slow focus. This is one of the quickest focusing lenses I own!!
Pros 1.2 quality glass does everything you'd expect from a great lens. Cons: This is no light weight.
Im not a huge 50mil fan but couldnt pass this one. Rented it for a week and had quite an adventure! The lens is superb optically except its 1 stop darker in the corners compared to the old 50/1.2 EF. Is it bad or not?
Fantastic lens. I have 7 cannon Ls and this lens is a stunner for focus accuracy and image quality. Fun stuff!
