The focal length is very useful, especially for portraits, and the macro focusing capabilities add greatly to this lens's versatility, making it a great choice for products. The compact size and light weight make this lens comfortable to carry and use for long time periods.
Just like basically all fast, medium-tele prime lenses, the Canon RF 85mm f/2 STM IS macro is capable of delivering an outstanding image quality. It's already very sharp at f/2 - even on a high megapixel body - and it's about as sharp as it gets at f/4. Lateral CAs are negligible.
The Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM is a portrait prime that shoots close-ups of all kinds...

Shame it's not f/1.8, Not weather sealed, Not true 1:1 macro
Superior optical performance, compact size and affordable price tag are the stand-out features of this lens, which makes it an appealing alternative to the larger, heavier and far more pricey L-series alternatives. It’s also a better performer than the previous EF lenses.
Canon already has an RF mount 85mm prime , but given its eye-watering price, it’s no surprise that a second RF 85mm f/2 lens has joined the ranks. Unlike its older sibling, it’s small, lightweight and, more importantly, far more affordable.

I have used this lens almost exclusively the last few weeks on both the R5 and R6. There is no disappointment here in the quality and color of the files. It's all Canon. The AF is extremely quick and quiet.
Had this lens for last month or so and I love the image quality. It’s very smooth and the colours are brilliant.

Great lens to go with my Canon RP camera. It can be used for portraits, landscapes and of course as a macro.
Although not an Canon L lens this is a very sharp and fulfils my requirements with acres to spare. It is well made and will not disappoint.

Brilliant lens and a must if you are lucky enough to have an R6 or R5. Worth every cent.
I bought this as a portrait lens as I used to use a Canon EF 85mm F1.8 on my old camera for portraits. This RF 85mm f/2 is super sharp and well worth the investment. My wife recently said it was “too sharp” when I used it to take portraits of her. How can a lens to be too sharp
