The murmurings and rumors stirring online about an October Focal release are finally vindicated. Hot off the heels of the Utopia 2022 release just a few weeks back, French audiophile company Focal has put out a new closed-back, wireless ANC model: the Focal Bathys.
Named after the first self-propelled submersible, the Focal Bathys are top-tier wireless headphones for exploring music’s buoyant depths.
After spending a ton of time with the Bathys, I firmly believe it to be one of a kind. For now, there is no other headphone that blends the experience of premium headphones with Bluetooth.
Focal blends Bluetooth into its high-end headphones recipe with great success Compellingly big, spacious, clear sound Pleasingly full-bodied balance Gorgeous and solidly built USB-C wired listening bonus Plasticky buttons
It is really hard to say which one I would go for if someone asked me. I think it depends on what you’re looking for most. Is it pure sound quality, good ANC, or phone calls? If you want Bluetooth headphones that can do it all in a simple way, you may think the PX8 is more your thing.
The Focal Bathys are Focal's debut wireless over-ear headphone offering and sonically, they're a veritable delight – wirelessly yes, but especially if you listen in wired USB-C DAC mode for 24bit/192kHz decoding. The app is also intuitive and one of the more likeable companions we've tested.

Exciting, detailed, expressive sound, Very comfortable (and easy on the eye), Excellent access to hi-res whistles and bells

On-ear controls are hit-and-miss, Noise cancellation can be beaten for less, No LDAC support
Minor niggles aside, the Focal Bathys are lovely and a pair audio lovers can fall in love with. My, it’s so easy to fall for these headphones. I love these headphones. This is ANC for audiophiles with a little bit more thrown in.

Beautifully spacious sound, Swanky design that stands out, Very comfortable to wear, Includes a DAC built inside the headphones, DAC keeps headset buttons working when plugged in

Pricey, Noise cancellation isn't as good as others, Wireless range can be a little patchy at times
At $799 USD, Bathys may be the least expensive way to get into the performance of a Focal high-end headphone, outside of Elex. With Alum/Mg drivers, and metallic, magnesium yoke, Bathys carries a rugged build-quality with the esthetic look and sound profile of much more expensive Focal high-end...
Focal Bathys BT ANC headphones are worth strong consideration
I own Shure 846 and is the best headphones that I have owned and experienced. Focal Bathys has surpassed my expectations. Sound is just awesome. Slightly warm sound, exactly how I like it. Base is punchy and highs are great. Watched a movie on iPad and it was amazing.
Some initial thoughts are below after 1 week. Overall, tremendous sound, and very good noise cancellation. Will provide an update in the future, depending on how generally motivated/lazy I am. Equipment: -Focal Bathys headphones -iPhone X, running iOS 16.1 -Tidal.
This is not my first Focal. I have the Focal Clear Mg with an excellent DAC and I was not expecting the Bathys to match it. Using the Bathys internal DAC with my MacBook Pro was pleasantly surprised. Having Bluetooth to use while traveling has no price.
The Bathys really impressed me from the first moments out of the box. Very comfortable with large ear cups. Transparency/pass-through mode is great. Noise cancelling is better than I expected after reading other reviews that it wasn’t that great.
A few design complaints but I find myself loving them more every time I listen to them. Bigger complaints... - The microphone for making calls is horrible. Maybe their focus was on microphones for the ANC and that calls were an after thought.
I am blown away by these headphones. I was worried about sizing but I have a huge head and they are comfortable enough to wear all day (and I have). The ear cup is just big enough but it is big enough.
I’m coming to these from the B&W P7 wireless (non ANC). The sound from the Bathys is substantially better via Bluetooth. The ergonomics not so much. The fit and comfort are excellent but the buttons and useless voice assistant and poor app need work. I will review the headphones in three use cases.
I am a believer. Thank you Focal *An unnecessarily long review of the Focal Bathys* As I sit here blissfully streaming John Coltrane’s Blue Train: The Complete Masters on Qobuz 96/24 via DAC mode on my now well-burned in Focal Bathys headphones, a cliche expression comes to mind - “sometimes you...
I was looking to replace my apple airpod max’s because of the poor battery life and no hardwired option for higher resolution. I own the focal clear, Hifiman stealth, and Audeze lcd-x. I have owned a variety of Bluetooth headphones but none over 500$.
Really steps up the game for wireless anc headphones. Easily my favourite pair to use, and the first I pick up when I go to use headphones.
