Fujifilm has been gaining an enviable following with their X Mount range and now have released two compact prime lenses that evoke the form factor of the traditional rangefinder lens. The first of these to be reviewed was the 23mm f/2 , the second is the 50mm f/2.
The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 50mm F2 R WR lens is the third entry in the compact F2 prime series for the X mirrorless system and boasts excellent image quality.

This lens is one that I originally thought I would have no use for, based on the "odd" focal length. The 75mm is surprisingly useful and fills a perfect spot between the normal and short telephoto range. I didn't think it would be an angle of view that would fit the way I compose, but I was wrong.
The autofocus is blistering fast on my XT1, its size and weight are close to nothing, this thing is a monster in the rain, and I'm in love with the images I've taken with them. I'm such a huge fan of the Fujifilm and what they're doing; this lens is no exception. One of my favorite lenses to date!
Have been shooting landscape with the 16mm 1.4 on an X-T20. Never quite convinced by the resolution compared to downloaded samples shots of others on full frame cameras. Also own the 14mm. Was tempted to switch to Sony but decided to give my Fuji investments another chance.
It's a good Lense indeed, for what is made for it does incredible job. Focal length eq to 53 really have normal look and pleasant for the eye. It is not as sharp as 16mm 1.4 don't even expect that sharpness, definitely you can notice haze/softness notice but not to the level of annoyment.
I just purchase the Fuji X-T2 with this lens, and I am blown away by its sharpness. Here is an image I shot handheld 23mm, F2.0, 800 ISO, 1/40 second on the X-T2. The image has edge to edge sharpness. Its just as good as my Canon L lenses for much less money.
I don't know whether I got a bad copy or whether the softness is typical of this lens, but in my initial testing the Fuji 35mm f/2 is VERY soft wide open (see the included photo). It may be the same type of spherical aberration that occurs in the 23mm and the X100 series of cameras.
Ive had this lens for around a month now and am very happy with it. Solid build quality, smooth controls, accurate autofocus, small, and lightweight. Sharpness is excellent and in line with Fujis other top lenses. Bokeh is good, but obviously not as good as Fujis 56mm f/1.2.
This is my second lens, following the 18-135. At f4.3 i really couldnt see a difference in sharpness at 35mm. At f2, this lens is sharper than my 35mm 1.8 on d3200. The aperature and focus ring are much more satisfying to use over the 18-135, but i still dislike manually focusing in video.
Impressive lens at f2, sharp focus with the blurred background I was looking for. I photograph cats for a local shelter, to provide images for their adoption website. The 50mm allows me to get a good clear image without intimidating the cats by being too close.
overall it's a good lens, imo it's better than the f1.4 because it has weather sealing. makes some weird noise when focusing but it's pretty fast. i wish it had a switch on the lens for auto aperture instead of having to rotate it all the way to the end.
