Gitzo Gimbal Fluid Head

What a difference! Much steadier when taking images with long lens and also fantastic not having to hold the weight of the lens. Feels solid and smooth.

I had a gimbal previously which had served me well, however when I saw this one I thought it was time to move to the fluid head. Very well made as you would expect from Gitzo. The adjustment and clamp knobs are big enough to use whilst wearing gloves and are robust.

Good solid build and very smooth operation. However, within just over 6 months the camera support bracket became increasingly loose from the horizontal spindle. Rather than loose the use of it, I dismantled it. The bracket is held by 3 small countersunk screws. There are no locking washers.

Fantastic for large primes like my 500mm f/4, I usually use it with the tripod fairly low and sit on a little lightweight camping stool and I can use this lens for hours with no effort at all, unlike if I were to be handholding or using a monopod.

The gimbal is especially suited for use with telephoto/super telephoto lenses for both photography & videography. The gimbal head is rock steady and tracking birds in flight is very smooth. It can therefore be used as a video head. The perfect amount of resistance is derived from the gimbal.
