Google Nest Protect 2nd Generation, White

I was invited to a world-wide launch of several products from Nest early last summer. I asked to review this item and was told two weeks despite numerous reminders nothing happened until I assume a new employee arrived now this is protecting me.

A second connected smoke and carbon monoxide detector arrives from Nest, but is this literal lifesaver worth £89?

Nest Protect is certainly a powerful and flexible bit of kit. You might wonder why you need a smoke alarm with so many bells and whistles, but when you realise what it can do it soon becomes clear why it's worth it.

If you live in a small enough home where just one smoke alarm will suffice, the Nest Protect is a great choice. It gets very expensive if you need multiple alarms (typically one per floor), but they do work well together and have some useful features, especially if you own other Nest products.

Really nice looking unit, however it's the technology inside that's the real star.Easy to wire to existing wiring from old unit it's replacing. Added to Nest thermostat already in use, seamlessly set up, was a breeze. Nice having control and information on the App on my iPhone and ease of set-up.

we bought several to replace older units. like that they work on battery & hardwire plus the nightlight is a soft glow, not harsh at night. also a plus that they sinc with smart phones so you can be notified if there is a problem and you are not at home.

The nest protect unit is a great addition to my connected home. Simple to use, intuitive, and connectivity was a breeze. I especially like the cool night light feature! I bought three of them for the main hallway, kitchen, and family room.

I bought these to replace most of the aging smoke/CO detectors in my house. Like everyone else, I despise the chirping that occurs when the battery is low as it seems to always occur at 3am and only on the ones at the highest peak of the house.

  Easy Setup, path light

The Nest Protect was so easy to install. Start to finish less than 15 minutes. I like the walk path light feature at night. I like that it self tests once a month. Very pleased. This is my second Nest Protect - one downstairs and one upstairs.

The Nest Protect products are very well built and thought out. Weve had the first generation fur years and the second generation appears to be even better.

My wife made me buy the Nest Protect before she would let me turn on the heater this winter. I'm glad we did because this was a great purchase. It lets us know before it sounds the alarm, and it performs a system check every night to make sure it works before we go to sleep.

These were so easy to install. The physical installation is just like a standard fire alarm, but the pairing and setting up to the internet is as easy as pie too. You just follow the prompts in the nest app and it's done.

On any normal day I have unusually high anxiety levels. Lately I had been stressing about our smoke detectors, lying awake at night wondering whether they worked. I finally pulled the trigger on the Nest Protect and my only regret is not doing so sooner.
