The Leica Q2 is nearly as competent as a fixed-lens digital camera can be. It's built very well, it handles very well, it's capable of excellent image quality and it's a joy to use. We wish Leica would address the lackluster JPEGs, but the Raw files are excellent.

Street, travel and casual photography as well as landscape photographers that make use of medium wide-angle lenses.

Sports and action photographers that require longer focal lengths, and those that require a more robust video feature set.

There’s something nice about a well-made compact camera and they don’t come much better-made than the Leica Q2, a full-frame camera with a beauty of a lens. The Leica Q2 Monochrome takes that charm a step further with the promise of first-rate black-and-white images.

Designed to produce the best monochrome images possible, Compact size for a full-frame camera, Built-in viewfinder

Only produces monochrome images, Fixed rather than tilting screen

The Leica Q2 Monochrom is an outstanding camera, as is her sister model the original Leica Q2. The combination of a fast, wideangle, superlative 28mm f/1.7 lens and a high-res 47.3-megapixel sensor—all optimized for monochrome photography—creates an incredible product that any photographer would...

The Leica Q2 , released in April of 2019, is a fixed-lens, full-frame camera sporting a new (at the time) 47.3MP sensor and an impressive, stabilized 28mm F1.7 Summilux lens. Even though it’s technically just a “point & shoot” camera, it’s designed to look like the traditional Leica M rangefinder...

At the end of the day the Q2 is a lovely every day carry kind of camera. It has a fixed lens at 28mm with a fast aperture of f/1.7. It would be perfect for vacation, street shooting, or landscape. It’s light yet tough, and even weather sealed so have no fear in taking it out into the elements.

Although they look about the same from the outside (except for a couple notable and useful ergonomic improvements) the Leica Q and Leica Q2 are very different animals, different from the CMOS sensor inside to the wireless connectivity signals they emanate.
![]() |
Leica announced the Q in June 2015. Three and a half years later, it’s still a highly desirable camera. However, the Leica Q2 makes some attractive upgrades, not least the boost in the resolution from 24.2Mp to 47.3Mp. In addition, the weather-sealing is welcome.

It’s easy to forgive these notes, though, as the camera is just so lovely to use, and the results are as beautiful as they are a nod to classic film and prints. While film still exists, it’s not something most people use.

A love letter to old school photographers, Beautiful build, Stunning image quality with surprisingly versatile low-light mode, Crop mode lets you get "closer" and expands a capability of the fixed lens camera, Supports 4K monochromatic video, WiFi connectivity for image transfer and remote camera...

Very, very expensive, Viewfinder and LCD screen don't always play nicely, No ports means no way of sending files to a TV directly from the camera
![]() |
The Leica Q2 Monochrom, and other Leica cameras may seem expensive, however, it's because of this that the Q2 Monochrom is able to exist. Without Leica producing unique cameras, in smaller numbers, this camera most likely wouldn't be possible.

Monochrome 47mp full-frame sensor, Extremely sharp results, High quality 28mm f/1.7 lens, Optical Image Stabilisation, CINE-4K / 4K video recording, Extremely solid build quality, Weather-sealed, 10/20fps continuous shooting

Price (which could be justified), 28mm lens may not suit everyone, No USB connection or other ports, Black and white won't be for everyone (see the Q2)
the amount of detail in each image is ridiculous. the resolution (not to be confused with pixel count or sharpness) is easily on par with medium format cameras. shadow recovery is crazy same as very high iso photography (I basically walk around at night in the city shooting up to iso 50k or even...
This camera was worth the wait. I have commented elsewhere that what i really enjoy about the camera is the simplicity. You don't have to worry about having the right lens or carrying around a big heavy bag. You can simply go out with freedom and take some terrific pictures.

Not for all situations
Absolutely LOVE this camera!! I have a Canon 5d Mark 4 and it’s my go-to but this Leica has opened up a whole new way of taking pics for me. It is fun and easy to take around and the 48 megapixels are incredible!
If you have the means, I highly recommend it. District Camera was a pleasure to do business with.
A fantastic point and shoot that is vastly supierior to the Fuji X-100V, pristine images and Leica quality. The 47MP sensor coupled with 28MM Summilix lens really does not disapoint and the macro capabilty exceeds expecations...
Camera is excellent, the foot's software sucks but images can be transmitted by sd card.

The Leica Q2 is a simple-marvel. It's as simple as taking arguably one of the finest lenses ever made, and attaching it to a leica body. The look, feel and imagery of the Q2 is Leica magic but that Summilux 28mm f1.7 with macro ring bumps the kit to world-class.

Leica Q2 Field Review: Cabo Two batteries, two memory cards, and one camera. The Q2 is ideal for travel. After four days in Cabo San Lucas, I’m more convinced than ever that the Q2 is a perfect travel companion.
