The Leica Q2 Monochrom is a speciality version of the Q2, made just for black-and-white imaging. It's not quite as versatile as the color edition, but it will make monochrome specialists happy—for a price.

First introduced in March 2019 , Leica Q2 is a 47.0MP Large Sensor Compact camera with a Full frame (36 x 24 mm ) sized CMOS sensor, built-in Image Stabilization and 28 mm F1.7 lens. Q2 is also sold as Type No. 4889 in some of the countries. Leica replaced the older Q Typ 116 with this model.

Leica has not deliberately ‘hobbled’ a regular camera to make it shoot black and white only. The Leica Q2 Monochrom has had the normal color filter array removed to produce a much higher level of black and white image quality than a regular ‘color’ camera can deliver, even the regular Q2.

One other thing: be careful shooting in artificial light. You’re sometimes going to get banding as a result with electronic shutter. But otherwise, the images are a thing of beauty. I can’t really complain majorly about the Leica Q2 Monochrom. It’s nearly perfect. Is it a niche product? I guess.

I am currently a Fuji X-T4 owner with a bunch of lenses. I love the Fuji size, design, quality, and value. I've had 3 different X100's and 2 different X-T's. For some reason during this recent "stay-at-home" situation I started watching YouTubes on Leica and kept learning about the Q2.
