As many have stated, you would assume that for the price that the quality, durability and features would be a lot better. It came out without many LED alternatives that were easy to lug around for a range of uses.
This light fits straight in my equipment toolbox. It gives an amazing light and its easy to control. Been using it both for some fashion shoots and some interior evening shots. Works very well in both cases.
After renting for a couple of times I decided it was worth owning and having on hand. Quality of light is outstanding and the portability allows for a quicker, more accurate workflow. Best used in low light situations.
Nothing to complain about light, it's powerful and nicely dimmable, maybe just the lowest step of dim could be even more subtile. Building quality could be better, moving parts are loose. I would like to have the zoom to be fixable some way - when holding down it just starts to move to zoom in.
Had seen this light before only in videos until I used and handled it for a whole week while assisting in an architectural project. Liked it so much, I needed to get one for my own architectural projects.
I have owned this light for 5 years so Im one of the lucky ones who got moneys worth from it by using it at a 100 or so weddings. I too have had battery issues. They began to fall out so I used gaffer tape. An inconvenience, but I can deal with that.
Batteries go dead, thats a fact. Now try to order one for the Lowel Gl-1 and youre stuck with a great light that you can not use.
While a portable fresnel sounds good on paper, the build quality of this unit is absolute garbage. My unit worked for one shoot and then the battery refused to take a charge. After replacing the battery, the charger has now packed up and refuses to work.
Bought this kit with two spare batteries at $170/piece in addition. Neither batteries would recharge now. I've only used this on two shoots so far.I can now only use the GL-1 plugged thru AC adapter into the wall, which defeats the point of a handheld LED torch.
There was so much hype around this light. I bought it for photography to light up wedding receptions. The light looks nice, but this thing started to fall apart after just two weddings. The grip peeled, the battery always fall off, and the battery does not keep its charge.
