I've resisted moving to a ball mount because camera height is so critical to me and you lose the adjustable center post. You're trading ease of level for ease of correct height. I'd rather be a little off level than 1 1/2 too low.
I'm on my second one. I shoot over 50,000 photos a year. The first one lasted over 10 years. The functions are buttery smooth and I expect this one to last a long time as well. It is heavy though. I would only recommend this for a studio.
The ease and speed of setup is what I rely most on. I take it to a location and am ready to shoot in seconds.
I'm 6'6 tall. This was just one of three tripods that I found that could reach up to me instead of me going down to it. For the past year or so I've been into pan photography...I like to shoot more than what I can see through the viewfinder..
Very sturdy tripod. Ideal for location or studio shootings.
Its big. Its heavy. Its rock-solid stable, even with 26+ lbs. of gear mounted, including large pano-head, camera and BIG lens all being buffeted by 25+ MPH wind gusts out on the open high-plains. It stands firm, and does what's its supposed to do . . . not move or shake or vibrate.
Like this tripod, good and sturdy
I had been eyeing this tripod for years. Finally picked one up. Heavy as lead. But it's solid. I'm about to take it around the world. Figure I'll be strong as an ox afterwards ;)
Extremely easy to use tripod that is perfect for the studio. You will have to decide if the extra convenience of the tripod is worth the extra carrying weight if you are using the tripod outside of the studio. The automatic leg release system works as advertised.
Rock solid and very strong. I do a lot of macro work professionally and needed a new studio tripod. This one is great because at its normal height it is perfect for my table top and I can adjust the legs outward if I need to lower the platform.
