We fully expected the Nikon P1000 to be too unwieldy at 125x zoom to use handheld, but we were pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Outdoors on a sunny day, the P1000 doesn’t require a tripod, but the hit rate for great shots isn’t perfect at the telephoto end.

Crazy telescopic zoom, Excellent optical stabilization, Solid image quality in good light, On-lens zoom controls, Decent build quality
-
-
Large and front-heavy, Controls inaccessible while processing images, Autofocus, image quality suffer in low light
The Nikon Coolpix P1000 has the longest zoom of any fixed lens camera yet, but it takes a good deal of skill to master.

Incredible 125x (24-3,000mm) zoom range. 7fps burst. Vari-angle LCD. EVF. Raw support. 4K video. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Image quality suffers at maximum zoom. Unresponsive after bursts. No weather protection. Pricey. Bulky. Screen omits touch support.
: The Nikon COOLPIX P1000 may not be cheap, but for a camera with this zoom range, it's an absolute bargain. If you don't mind its slowness and a few other quirks, and plan to shoot mostly in brighter conditions, the king of the super-zooms may prove valuable for anyone who doesn't want to take a...

For just under $1000, you get a camera with an ultra-zoom lens that doesn't exist in the interchangeable world. With Moon and Bird modes, you'll easily be taking close-ups that look like they were shot by a professional.

-
The P1000's small 1/2.3" image sensor (the same size found in a few smartphones) limits low-light performance and dynamic range. In fact, it's the same sensor out of the P900, which we didn't love for its image quality, with a much longer lens.
The Nikon Coolpix P1000 is all about its incredible zoom range. If you need a focal length of 3000mm, it's the only game in town. If you don't need that much zoom then there are far better cameras for equal or less money.

Capturing the moon and still wildlife from incredible distances.

-
High image quality for most situations, focusing on moving subjects, a long day of shooting
The Nikon COOLPIX P1000 is undeniably the king of super-zooms. Its awesome 125x reach, extending from a 24mm wide angle to an eye-watering 3000mm, is unmatched and deserving of a new mega-zoom classification all of its own.
Street photographers will probably want to pass on the Nikon P1000 because the camera is anything but inconspicuous. Where the P1000 shines will be photographing or, better yet, shooting video of Junior’s soccer game or getting long distance candids at his or her birthday party.
Even with its impressive focal range of 24mm to 3,000mm (35mm equivalent), this camera is a lot for the average photographer to handle. But, with patience, practice and a very steady hand, you may be able to capture unique pictures of wildlife — and even the craters on the moon.

125x 24-3,000mm (equivalent) lens, Excellent image stabilization, Fully articulating LCD, 4K UHD video, RAW capabilities

Bulky, Variable image quality, No touch screen, Short battery life
The Nikon Coolpix P1000 offers the longest zoom you can hope for from a camera that can fit into a backpack, which is a big accomplishment in itself. This comes at a high price of Rs. 75,950 and honestly, at this price we also expect very good image quality, which this camera struggles with.

Impressive zoom range, Very good lens stabilisation, Fully articulating display, RAW and 4K support
-
-
Heavy and bulky, Average quality JPEGs, Battery life could be better, Autofocus can be sluggish
A 3,000mm-equivalent zoom for under a grand is a stunning deal – though you’ll have to learn to live with some limitations
-
+
Stunning zoom capabilities, Reasonable price, Impressive photo and video performance in good light

Image quality suffers badly in low light, No touchscreen, Laggy viewfinder
With its 125x zoom, the P1000 shows Nikon can produce incredible lenses, even if the rest of this bridge camera...

Stunning zoom range, Good EVF, Excellent image stabilisation, 4K video and RAW photos

Average image quality, Poor low light performance, Big and heavy, Focusing and VR struggle at extreme zoom
I was amazed how good this camera is. I do a lot of air shows and shoot a lot of nature pictures. I got a SX60 last year and liked it but the P1000 blows it out of the water. Love the lens range and many of the other features and has worked well for me so far in nature. Air shows coming this summer.
I purchased this camera because of the 3000 mm zoom, and though it took great images of the moon, it does not have the capability of taking shots longer than 1 second for other Astro photography.
Very Heavy. I bought i for moon shots, so far I have not been successful in focus variables. I am using a tripod with stability disabled. I am not and expert so my comments should be qualified by the word "armature".

All features function but max zoom is a disappointment

Manuals are lacking directions on WiFi . I want to pair with a Mac Book Airand so far I'm having extreme difficulty.
Lots of people are looking a camera between DSLR and POINTSHOOT (DSLPS), like P1000. Because Nikon P1000 is one of the DSLPS camera. It has excellent zoom. Now a day public look a camera which has everything in one camera. No need to carry a lot of accessories. Where Nikon has given in P1000.
My wife takes close-up photos of flowers. I take landscape photos of Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge. I always had trouble with moon pictures; I needed more optical zoom. When I saw a few reviews of the P1000, it was almost too good to be true. Floral pictures as close as 1 cm.
While I've only had the P1000 for a short time and I'm still learning how to operate it, I'm finding it's doing just what I thought it would for me & I'm quite happy with it. I own the P900 also and while some things are similar there is still a learning curve.
