The Nikon Z 14-30mm f/4 S is not the fastest lens, sure, but it's lightweight, small, gives super image quality, and is just the thing that may tempt new mirrorless users over to Nikon's side. Nikon's lens roadmap for the Z series just got interesting.

  • +

Superb image quality in all respects, Compact, lightweight, retractable design, Filters can be attached to front

  • -

Modest f/4 aperture rating, No in-lens focus distance scale, No VR, Similar price to f/2.8 Sigma and Tamron wide zooms

With the NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f4 S, Nikon finally has a first party lens for their Full Frame mirrorless Z series that covers the ultra-wide focal range popular amongst photographers specializing in architectural, landscape, real estate, and travel photography.

With the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f4 S, Nikon has created a lightweight and compact ultra-wide-angle lens that landscape and architectural photographers will surely want to add to their arsenal.

Great image quality, practically silent autofocus and a relatively compact design make this a winning option for Z-series users. The f/4 maximum aperture may rule it out for some, but a fine balance has been struck for those who need something as powerful as it is practical.

  • +

Very compact considering its focal range, AF is practically silent, Built-in corrections banish distortions effectively, Flat front element easy to clean

  • -

Collapsible barrel not always ideal, Slightly soft corners wide-open at 14mm, Not possible to click declicked Control Ring, Not cheap for an f/4 lens

I'm new to photography I previously owned a D 750 and decided to trade it in for Z6.I have several Z lens now but this is far my favorite! I honestly can't believe that I'm taking these photos. The sharpness and the ultra wide makes it so fun to use. I never want to take this lens off the camera.

The 14-30 f4 is noticeably smaller and lighter than many other full frame ultra wide zooms and it doesnt sacrifice image quality to get there. I previously used a 16-35 lens because it had filter threads but there were times when I wanted to go a little bit wider and the Nikon 14-30 f4 gives me the...

This lens alone makes it work switching to the Z platform. Compared to other super-wide lenses this one is very small and lightweight. Ideal for landscapes. Accepts filters. Yes, it has a fair amount of distortion at the wide end. But for most of my landscape work I disable the automatic correction.

Have only used it one day but my copy does not seem to have a severe vignette issue. Only very slightly, I think it is quite normal. May be my copy but I used it on my Z6. Colour, image quality, is as good or better than my older 12-24 F2.8, or any other good quality wide-angle lens.

The 14-30 f4 is an excellent addition to my Z 7 system. Small, light-weight and sharp, it's exactly what I wanted to compliment the compact full frame body of the Z 7. I don't find that one stop slower than 2.8 is a significant issue with landscapes, travel, cityscapes, or industrial photography.

I bought the Z7 and this lens to save weight. I'm a big fan of ultra-wide, and have lugged my D100, D700 and then D750 all over the world with the 14-24 f/2.8 since 2008. But, wow, is that arrangement HEAVY. This 14-30 f/4 (with a Z7) is so much lighter, has a better narrow end (to 30, vs.

This lens is the only one I used on my Z6 during a recent trip to several Utah National Parks. Had the Z24-70 in my bag but never took it out. I found the Z6/14-30 setup to be perfect for my vision of the landscape. The Z6 with this lens carries comfortably in a small messenger bag on day hikes.

Still putting the lens through its paces but its really sharp and reminds me of my 14mm f-mount. Its nice to have that extra bit of range, and if you are in a pinch you can throw the camera in DX mode and get more reach. Happy with the lens. At this focal length f/4 is great.

I use this primarily for landscape. It outperforms my 14-24 f/2.8G, especially in corners. That is a bit of an unfair comparison since the 14-30 is not an f/2.8. Size matters though and the 14-30 is one I'll carry on hikes without reservation.

I've been shooting commercial architectural interiors for 30 years and this is by far the best full frame DSLR optic I have ever used. Absolutely worth the price if you're serious about landscape/architectural photography.
