Bright, wide-angle optics, Quick, quiet autofocus, Excellent resolution, Focuses close, Dust and splash protection, Full-frame coverage

Omits fluorine protection, Very sensitive control ring, No dedicated aperture ring or function button, Focus breathing and nonlinear focus are downers for video
Nikon’s lens engineers are reaping the rewards of the company’s shift to the larger lens mount and the Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8 S is another great lens. It’s quite long for a 20mm lens, but it keeps distortions under tight control and captures impressively sharp images throughout the aperture range.

Fast aperture, Weatherproof, Excellent sharpness

-
Big for the focal length, No focus distance scale
For a native Z-mount lens with the full range of autofocus and handling finesse, this 20mm prime is an absolute cracker. The wide viewing angle and fast aperture combine to give great versatility for everything from cramped interiors to rolling landscapes and beyond, taking in heavenly skies at...

Spectacular image quality, Negligible focus breathing, Filter thread with separate hood

-
Relatively pricey, No focus distance scale
This lens is a professional grade optic with flagship-level durability, making it well worth the price if the exact focal length of 20mm is what you are looking for.

Excellent image quality, Flagship grade durable build quality, Fast, reliable autofocus performance, Good value for a professional lens

Omitted aperture/custom control ring and Fn button, Larger than other full-frame mirrorless 20mm primes, More expensive than other 20mm f/1.8 primes
The Nikon Z 20mm f1.8 S is a unique proposition for owners of Nikon's full-frame mirrorless cameras: It is the widest large aperture lens with autofocus designed specifically for the short flange distance of the Nikon Z system.
Taking care of an even image quality across the frame up from the f/1.8 aperture, is particularly visible. The tested lens is able to put to shame not only the Nikkor 1.8/24 but also the 1.8/35 model, praised by us to heavens and a lot easier to correct.

solid, weather-sealed, mostly metal casing,, very good resolution in the frame centre,, good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,, sensible image quality on the edge of full frame already from the maximum relative aperture,, low longitudinal chromatic aberration,, negligible lateral...

distinct vignetting on full frame,, a lot of coma-related problems,
20-millisten eliittiä. Loistava piirto jo täydellä aukolla. Mainio linssi videokuvaukseen. Suosittelen. Korvaa kalliin ja sinänsä ainulaatuisen hyvän 14-24S -linssin, ellei siihen ole varaa. Lisänä 1.8 valovoima! Todellinen laajakulmaisten allrounder.
The new Z line 20mm 1.8 S as well as all the other Z line primes which I own as well, blow the F mount equivalents away which I also posess, from CA, color fringing, ghosting, flaring, rendering, micro contrast and center to edge sharpness, there is no comparison!
I got this 20mm 1.8 S for video use, I use my 14-30mm for landscapes. Face tracking is so much quicker and accurate on the Z cameras with native lenses. This lens is fantastic, super sharp and proveides lovely backgrounds when used wide open.
Wow a great wide angle view with such a great maximum aperture. Why increase noise with high ISO when you don't need to! Now this is photography! I will love using this lens all the time.
Like my other "Z" lenses, this 20mm is remarkably SHARP! I plan to use this lens specifically for astrophotography and hopefully Northern Lights in Canada this year.
I love this lens! My favorite subjects are astronomy and landscape. Sadly, it has made me regret buying the 35mm. Just don’t use that one anymore.
incredibly sharp in a light package, great upgrade from the older 20mm 1.8 + FTZ
Couldn't be happier with my Nikon Z 20mm f/1.8 S lens.
This is one of the many reasons you buy a Z camera---the GLASSLike all the lenses that have come out for the Z, this too is a great lens.
Crystal clear, corner to corner, fast focusing with nice bokeh and visually elegant.
