The Nikon Z30 is clearly designed with content creators in mind, particularly those intending to film vlogging-style content. It captures 4K/30p video from the full width of the sensor and 1080p video at 120 fps.

  • +

Vlogging, streaming and social media content.

  • -

Advanced video production or stills photographers (you're better off with the Z50, which has an EVF).

7.6/10

The Nikon Z 30 is a good vlogging camera. It's quite portable but a tad on the bigger side for walk-and-talk-style vlogs. Still, its fully articulated touchscreen makes it easy to monitor yourself while recording, and it gets bright enough to combat glare on sunny days.

  • +

Portable design., Bright, fully articulated screen., Fae tracking works well in video.

  • -

Prone to overheating when recording in 4k., No IBIS.

What’s welcome here is the usual Nikon attention to detail, responsive performance and robust construction, with access to a very wide, well-supported system of lenses and accessories, not only from Nikon but third party manufacturers too.

  • +

Attention to detail, Responsive performance, Robust construction, Great ecosystem, Affordable, Easy to use

  • -

Can get expensive with kits and extras, No eye-level viewfinder or integral flash, Pretty large

Even without the flash, the Nikon Z30 is an absolute gem. There’s just so much to like in this small system. Mirrorless cameras are typically a little smaller than their mirror-equipped DSLR counterparts, and manufacturers are certainly getting them smaller. But often, there’s a trade off somewhere.

  • +

Surprisingly compact, Solid images, Excellent controls, Vari-angle touchscreen means selfies are supported!, Supports WiFi via app, Charges over Type C USB (and can be perpetually powered that way), Great value

  • -

Lacks a viewfinder, Needs an onboard flash

While we have few complaints about the Z30’s imaging performance, without the Z50 ’s EVF, framing shots outdoors in bright sunlight with the Z30 was a matter of point-and-guess in many situations.

This all-in-one for online content creators simplifies the process of making videos for the internet.

  • +

Front-facing screen makes framing up shots easier. Excellent low-light performance. Great eye-detecting autofocus. Direct streaming to Twitch and YouTube. Affordable for creators on a budget.

  • -

Camera interface is unintuitive for beginners. Creator kit accessories are fine, but you can find cheaper alternatives.

The Nikon Z30 is a great little vlogging camera for capturing day-to-day 4K video. The controls and touch interface are easy to get your head around and the interchangeable lens mount offers great versatility, but it has a lot of competition.

  • +

Compact and lightweight design, Beginner-friendly controls, Interchangeable lens mount offers more versatility, You want a 4K vlogging camera: While the Z30 isn’t short of competitors, the camera is compact, beginner-friendly and capable of producing some punchy 4K video.

  • -

No in-body image stabilisation, Lacks features found on similarly-priced rivals, You want a camera to take photos: While the Z30 does produce some nice stills, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with no interest in video. This is a vlogging camera first.

1 January 2023

The Nikon Z30 is Nikon’s cheapest mirrorless camera. It’s an APS-C model that joins the range just below the existing Nikon Z50 and Z fc , but while it shares a lot of the technology in these cameras, it has no viewfinder.

This is not a typical review, but rather a comparison of the two cameras, with a focus on the firmware differences that most reviews skip over. I will ignore most of the physical differences (EVF, flippy vs. tilting screen, etc.) as they are quite obvious.

as title says. Camera over heats after 45 of video and nikon wont upload a firmware update to fix this...

The Nikon Z30 with both lenses is the best entry level mirrorless camera setup you can buy.

The camera is great. Though it does take a lot of getting used to. I appreciate that it's not a point and shoot but having to take off the lens cap before a photo take some getting used to. The instructions also are long and a lot of reading. I will start to use it shortly and view the results.

I've been using Nikon equipment for over 50 years and this one does not disappoint. I had no experience with mirrorless cameras, but this seems to work just fine for my needs. It does quality stills and pretty good video, though it tends to be a little less smooth when moving than I'd like.

Honestly a great company went above and beyond, item that I ordered even arrived prior to expectation.

Gorgeous piece of tech for entry level vloggers and still photographers. Compact, well built with a myriad of camera settings that would please the more seasoned photographer despite the lack of an electronic viewfinder.

Bought this for video work and it works great and even better when rigged up to pro audio and a gimbal
