Nikon’s pro full-frame mirrorless combines high resolution with impressive speed. Andy Westlake takes a first look
The Nikon Z9 sees Nikon's mirrorless cameras take an impressive jump forward to match flagship rivals from Canon and Sony. The Z9 feels like an indestructible DSLR, but inside are innovative features like advanced AF tracking, 20fps raw burst shooting, 8K video and an electronic-only shutter.

The future has arrived. It took only one indoor sporting event with my Z9 and Z 70-200 to finalize my switch from DSLR to Mirrorless. The 20 fps allowed me to capture great action shots and at the end of the day after approximately 2000 shots my keeper rate went up due to the excellent focusing...
Nikon has hit one "out of the park" with the new Z9! This is simply one of the best cameras Nikon has produced since the introduction of the D850. The Auto Focus is "spot on", the build quality is solid, the image quality is superior with the new Z lenses, the control layout is logical, and the...
AF works simply great. A little focus breathing with adapted lenses but I'm sure that we will have some firmware updates in the future. One recommendation would be that Nikon ships the camera with the "Sensor Shield" switched to the "On" position to protect the sensor immediately out of the box.

As a full time working pro coming off of a D6, I had been very hesitant to finally make the switch to mirrorless largely due to the pared down size, ergonomics, smaller battery, etc. I received my Z9 a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely couldn't be happier - truly blown away by this camera.

I'm loving the little things (adjustable viewfinder size for eyeglass wearers, optional red display for night photography, Starlight view...) as much as the big ones (eye autofocus – whether people or animals – is amazing). A truly impressive camera, what Nikon users have been waiting for.

Graduating from the Z6ii and the Z6 to the Z9 has been transformative. The focusing and tracking system are spot on, sharp and flawless. As a sports photographer the number of “missed shots” is vastly reduced, powerful and beautifully built. Simply the best purchase I’ve made in years.
