I can't think of anything negative to say about this scope and I am pretty fussy when it comes to optics. Well balanced, light, smooth focusing, very sharp optics, and the best part is I can use any 1 1/4 astronomical eyepiece many of which are far superior to the zooms found on spotting scopes.
I am a very advanced astronomer and appreciate fine optics. I needed a spotting scope for non astronomy purposes and already had a full set of the excellent Pentax eyepieces (5-40mm) including their 8-24mm zoom that is used with my telescopes.
I looked at many reviews trying to decide what spotting scope would best fit my needs and that would also possibly work for astronomy purposes hence the 1.25 eyepiece interchangeability. I obtained a Vixen NLV 8-24mm zoom and WOW, this scope surprised me with the clarity and brightness.
I was looking for a very portable scope for birding and I am glad I selected the 65EDA II. It's extremely light and the optics are great. I have used it with both a Televue 32mm plossl and a 13mm Nagler for birding and the views have been very pleasing.
but 8-24mm zoom eyepiece ds not fit in case
Pentax PF-65EDA II Spotting Scope I have been shopping for a spotting scope for over a year and I have not been satisfied with any of the sporting optics. They all have milky or grainy images. In researching the outdoor forums, many people sung the praises of this spotting scope from Pentax.
I use it for viewing wildlife mainly. I bought this scope based on the rave reviews I read about it's sharpness, resolution and optical clarity. I am very disappointed in all of the above qualities. It does not meet my expectations.
I use this scope for birding, where I really appreciate it's compact size, sharp views and accurate color rendition. I originally paired it with the Pentax XW 14mm eyepiece, but fund it hard to use with glasses (kidney beaning and blackouts).
This spotting scope ranks high with several other bloggers and advanced birders. Once it was delivered, I mounted it on a tripod and spent the afternoon bird watching. With Pentax eyepieces, this scope will outperform all other scopes in the 60-65mm class.
