I have bought two of these for use by film students. The price/performance ratio is excellent. These NTG-1 models have substantially quieter noise floors than the later NTG-3, or the similar Sennheiser MKE600 mics. I will probably buy more if they are still available.
I wouldn't consider myself a professional nor have I experience with any other shotguns. HOWEVER, I don't need to be a pro to tell that the noise level is very low and that this mic produces very good sound.
Very clean sound. Easy to use. Get the job done nicely.
Great crisp clear sounds was picking up turkeys gobbling 300 yards away through the woods no problem!
I purchased 4 of these mics to use in a house of worship and I was not disappointed. The clarity of these units are great, doesn't have a muddy floor noise. I called Rode before the purchase as to which model I needed and this is the they recommended.
A great complimentary accessory for my Sony HXR-NX100. Works great for recording our chorus from the back of the auditorium.
Love this mic for recording. Works great on a boom or shoe mounted. Love the quality of the mic and of the sound I get out of it.
I bought this mic to use on my C100. A fantastic mic in build-quality and sound-quality. You cannot go wrong for the money. Also, I didn't want to have a longer mic that could extend into my wide-angle shots so I chose the NTG1 over the NTG2.
This is the third NTG1 that I've bought. All my broadcast cameras now have one of these on board. Great value, quality and I know that I'm supporting an Australian manufacturer.
Seriously great sound.I set up the Rode NTG 1 with the Pistol Grip Shock Mount, 3.3 metre Professional Boom Pole attching it to a Microphone Stand with a Microphone Clip and a T Shirt for a Counter Weight. It is doable. I ran the Audio Cable into a Rode Procaster.
