I didn't realize this thing was going to be so much larger than the videomic pro. That's a little disappointing honestly. I like to keep a low profile when filming and this thing is as tall as my DSLR body and almost as wide/fat as the body.
The only reason I give this mic a 4.5 and not a 5 is because the connection wire to camera was not very long at all and needed to buy an extension since I was actually setting the mic up closer than the camera was. Otherwise, performed great!
I've been using this model of mic on YouTube since September 2013 in all kinds of sever weather conditions -30°C to +35°C, even damp locations but be care to not get it wet. the dead kitten does help direct rain hit the mic but no good if dead kitten gets soaked.
I literally waited 8+ months to purchase a shotgun mic because I had to have the automatic on/off feature of the VideoMic Pro+ and it HAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!
I knew Rode made some good mic but was a little unsure about this kit. I went ahead and purchased it and by far blew my thoughts away. sound was perfect and I didn't even use the extra wind screen.
This mic captures really clean audio in a compact package.
This is such a big improvement over my other mic! I use this with my Canon T6i and I love the ability to turn the volume way down on the camera and use the +12db on the mic to get rid of that hissing from the camera.
