Bought a red ring version for canon for about 230$ used.First thing I noticed is that 14mm on a full frame is considerably wider than 10mm on a crop.At f2.8 my copy is not usable. The sharpness gets much better at f4.

  • +

Decent sharpness when stopped down, dramatically wide on a ff

  • -

Inaccurate focus scale. It seems the lens barrel "breathes", giving you sharpness inconsistency from shot to shot

Most photographers would not put full frame 14mm at the top of their most-used focal length list, but most photographers can benefit by having this focal length in their kits. Images captured at 14mm can be very captivating and a welcome addition to one's photo portfolio.

Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED Aspherical UMC is a very affordable lens yet performing up there with the very best big boys. Its primary strength is an extremely high resolution across the image frame combined with low CAs. There's a tiny bit of field curvature but it's really not overly field relevant.

The Rokinon 14mm ƒ/2.8 IF ED UMC is a surprising hidden gem of a lens. Producing very sharp images with great chromatic aberration control and good build quality, all for the unbelievably low price of around $330 , the Rokinon 14mm lens is a fantastic value.

No promises, but I would like to write a full Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens review in the future. In the meantime, I think that you will find the standardized Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens results currently available to be helpful.

Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED Aspherical UMC may be the surprise product of the season. It's very affordable yet performing up there with the very best big boys. However, it's not a flawless lens, of course.

Verdict: Korean optics company Samyang is known for fully manual lenses and superb optical quality, and this ultra-wide 14mm has a fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 which lets you capture stunning scenes in low light.

If you can live with the inherent distortion and the lack of autofocusing, the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 lens provides by far the cheapest way to get a really wide-angle lens that can produce sharp images.

I use this lens with my D810 and is super sharp. The focus confirmation works perfect! The hyperfocal scale is very useful and I need not use the viewfinder or live view as this lens has an incredible DOF. Also this lens is well built and light weight compared to my 24-70 2.8.

I have this on my D800 24/7 for wedding use . All the controls are taped up and its set at F5.6 and focused at 10 ft. Thats it just point and shoot . Fantastic quality. Church interiors ,large groups just brilliant.

I got this lens to take Milky Way, star and night photos. As many have mentioned it takes some time to figure out where infinity is on this lens. For me, infinity is equal to the 3mm indicator on the focus ring.

Other posts complain of distortion, low contrast, etc. The review points out that it has barrel distortion but it is easily corrected in Adobe Photoshop using the Warp function. As for low contrast, perhaps wide open but perfectly acceptable at F4 or higher, and you can easily add contrast with any...

    Affordable, decent construction, extremely sharp

  • -

Barrel distortion and vignetting, not weather proof.

Solid build quality, sharpI've been using this for nighttime "available light" shots, ISO 5K-25K and was a bit worried about "manual focus only" since I often rely on autofocus to dial things in in low light situations.

Used on 5D classic and 5D Mark II. An unexpensive & very specialized tool giving great results! The first main important thing: if you don't use software distorsion correction, it's a odd idea to buy it.

  • +

Very sharp at all aperture, price, build quality, ultra-ultra wide!

  • -

Distorsion but easily correctable with lightroom, only 6 blades

Overall impression very good, good build quality and good value for money. Image quality excellent. The only letdown is the manual focus system with focus difficult to achieve, esp. in low light it's a hit and miss situation as the distance scale on the focus ring just doesn't match the distances.
