The Rokinon 24mm f/2.8 is a budget lens that requires quite a bit of compromise. On one hand it has a cheap build, no weather sealing, vignettes heavily, and makes for soft corners until stopped down to around f/8.
Bought this for my A7s as a do-all lens. Trying to keep the camera light and small so I am more inclined to bring it along. This little lens is amazing. Super sharp and auto focus is lightning fast. It does have a natural vignette (darkening around the edges) when shooting wide open.
The lens was tested on a Sony A7r3. Sharpness was generally good and weakest at the corners at F2.8. Although it is significantly less sharp than the Zeiss Batis 25mm F2.0 lens, it is far lighter, more compact and less expensive.
Comparing this lens to the Sony 24-105 it's less sharp and has less pop. However, it is wider than the 24 mm setting on the 24-105 and is amazingly small and light. I will experiment more.
Im astonished with this small lens! It has an excellent finish, its very light, AF is quick and precise. Very sharp on center, sides and corners at all apertures and a bit less sharp at f/2.8 at the corners. Kudos to Rokinon!
By now you have read the reviews extolling the great pictures that this lens takes. I agree. The lens is sharp. Contrast and color saturation are good right out of the camera. I especially like night photography, and this lens retains its sharpness in low light.
I really wanted the 24mm gmaster, but I just knew that the weight and size of it would keep my from using it as much as I would have liked to, so I took the risk of getting this tiny lens, weighs less than 100g without the hood and lens cover.
