Performance Summary : The Samsung Portable SSD T5 offered strong performance throughout the vast majority of our testing. For all intents and purposes, when attached to a USB 3.1 (preferably gen 2) controller, it is as fast as a typical internal SATA SSD.

Tiny and outrageously fast, the Samsung T5 Portable SSD is the ultimate portable hard drive -- albeit with a price tag to match. It's about the same size and weight as a stack of 10 credit cards, so you'll barely feel it in your pocket.

While only a product refresh, Samsung has squeezed a bit more performance out of their new Portable SSD T5's. A new ASMedia controller enables USB 3.1 Gen 2 for those with a capable port, pushing speeds upwards of 540 MB/s, while those with 'older' USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports will still enjoy the ~450 MB/s...

When we tested the T3 last year, we were wowed by its compact form factor and peppy speeds. Samsung's Portable SSD T5 is a straightforward upgrade over its predecessor. The drive has made sizeable performance gains while retaining the same svelte footprint.

The external Samsung T5 SSDs are very fast, slightly smaller than a credit card and only weigh 51 grams. If you are looking for lightning fast external storage, these are interesting options.

Welcome to Myce’s review of the Samsung T5 Portable SSD (hereafter referred to as the T5).The Samsung T5 is a highly portable, high speed storage device, which could be used for carrying large amounts of data from one location to another; simply transfer the data you want to take to the new...

Capable of disk transfer speeds faster than the listed 540MB/s with capacities up to 2TB and weighing only 51 grams, the Samsung Portable SSD T5 is without a doubt the most compact and speedy storage medium available today.
I love this unit. I recently decided to put all my music on one drive. This drive is fast. It took me just under an hour to transfer 12700+ songs from two drives into the Samsung. The speed is impressive even though I don't have the latest generation USB, just a 3.0.
This is my second Samsung portable SSD. A year and half ago I had purchased the previous version in 500G capacity. Since I am very much into photography, these drives are great for storing my digital images during trips. These portable drives use a USB type C connection on the drive.
Large blueprints have always been a pain in my industry - not anymore! With 2TB of storage, I am not even worried this will run out of space and it's durable too - which is what I need.

This is the second Samsung SSD drive I have owned and I own several others, from Sandisk, glyph, etc. This one seemed easy to reformat and was working like a champ. I used it to back up my machd under 10.11.16 (el capitan).
I use two of these drives to bring new life to my iMac. Using the 3.1 USB interface, I use these devices in a RAID 0 configuration to get 730 MB/s Writes and 620 MB/s reads. One device alone will do 420 MB/s reads and writes. I have my OS on it.

If you have a USB C port on your computer this is a must get! Compared to other usb 3.1 drives this is way faster. Note if you plan to use the Apple dongle to transfer files over 500gb it will take about an hour and if you buy a usb3.1 to usb C cable it will take about 35min for over 500gb if you...
I bought this drive about 6 weeks ago. Everything was great running it as my system backup under Mac 10.11.16, El Capitan. Then one day, it just stopped mounting and I would get a weird message from the operating system: Disk Not Ejected Properly. I had not ejected it.
